American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Bismarck, ND, requiring PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
Details- Acute care stepdown unit with 32 beds in a Level II Trauma Center
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with cardiac diagnoses including cardiac caths, EP studies, and pacemakers, as well as ETOH, COVID BiPAP, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and patients with cardiac history
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5, with occasional 1:5–6 on nights; PCU-level overflow patients are cared for at a 1:3 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
- RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips; portable monitors, in-room monitors, and a tech at the nurses' station are available
- RT equipment present on the unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are expected to troubleshoot as needed
- Charge nurse is present on both shifts and occasionally takes a light patient load of 2–3 patients
- Nurse aides/PCTs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Epic EMR is used; experience preferred
- 12-hour shifts, days (7a–7p) and nights (7p–7a)
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- Floating required to all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding; travelers are first to float
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Any color scrubs permitted
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU experience required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
- Tele/cardiac nursing background strongly preferred
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any facility associated with CommonSpirit Health, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- Unit orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning the following Sunday
- RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
