American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedic Trauma unit at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of experience and night shift availability.
Details- Acute care hospital setting, Level I Trauma Center
- Med/Surg Orthopedic Trauma unit (4th Floor North & South) with 55 beds
- Patient population includes joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; PCTs available at a 1:10-20 ratio
- RNs required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also in use
- Telemetry techs interpret strips; RNs are expected to maintain general tele awareness
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Typically every other weekend required; additional weekend coverage may be needed based on department demand
- Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance; limited block scheduling available
- Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units holding Med/Surg patients
- 2–3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must permanently reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RNs must pass an open-book, pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure results in contract termination
- 2-day unit-specific orientation provided
- Unit serves a diverse patient population including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients
- Mechanical lifts available in every other room
- Strong emphasis on hourly rounding, responsiveness, and high patient turnover (multiple admissions and discharges per day)
- Charge nurse present on each shift and carries an assignment
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
- RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
