American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a community hospital in Artesia, NM, requiring 5 years of ED experience and a robust certification package including TNCC and PALS.
Details- Work in a 5-bed, 2-trauma bay Emergency Department at an acute care community hospital currently pursuing Level IV Trauma designation
- Patient volume averages 40–50 patients per day, with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Common cases include minor injuries, major traumas, crush injuries, burns, amputations, and patients presenting with STEMI and stroke (transferred out for definitive care)
- Must be proficient in mixing and titrating critical drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Epinephrine, and Insulin
- RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips and 12-lead EKGs independently
- RNs manage respiratory equipment and treatments; RT is dedicated to the ED during day shift and covers the entire hospital at night
- X-ray and CT are available 24/7; ultrasound, MRI, and portable imaging are also available
- Phlebotomy is available, though RNs may draw labs as needed
- EMR: TruBridge - Evident
- 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) on a 13-week contract
- Schedule is not block-scheduled; travelers are expected to be flexible to fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule
- Every other weekend required
- No floating or on-call requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, and NIHSS
- Minimum 5 years of Emergency Department experience required
- Trauma Level I or II ED experience is acceptable
- Must be able to independently mix and titrate critical drips
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently are essential
- The facility offers significantly more clinical capabilities than typical for its size, including 24/7 in-house security (2 officers per shift) and a house supervisor available in-house around the clock
- A walk-in family practice clinic attached to the hospital manages lower-acuity patients
- ED tech support (CNAs) is available for secretarial duties, vital signs, ADLs, and I&Os
- Travelers are not asked to take on charge nurse responsibilities
- Orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor based on individual needs; online modules must be completed prior to starting on the floor (approximately 20 hours)
- Holiday rotation participation may be required
- Scrub color: Navy blue; jackets are permitted but must be hood-free
