American Piledriving Equipment (APE) is a global manufacturer and supplier of foundation construction equipment. Our equipment moves throughout the United States and internationally between customers, jobsites, APE branches, and repair facilities.
The Position
This is not an entry-level logistics position
We are looking for an experienced freight and trucking professional to coordinate those moves from our Conroe, Texas location. Someone who understands trucking, heavy equipment transportation, and freight coordination and can independently manage shipments from quote through delivery from our Conroe, Texas location.
You should be comfortable determining transportation requirements, working directly with carriers and brokers, coordinating heavy-haul and oversized loads, solving problems when a shipment does not go according to plan, and keeping the related documentation and costs organized.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate domestic and international transportation of heavy construction equipment, parts, and related materials
- Book standard flatbed, step-deck, RGN/lowboy, heavy-haul, and oversized shipments as required
- Determine appropriate truck and trailer requirements based on equipment dimensions, weight, origin, and destination
- Obtain competitive freight quotes and select qualified carriers and brokers
- Negotiate freight rates and transportation terms
- Coordinate permits, routing, pickup requirements, and delivery appointments for oversized and overweight loads
- Communicate directly with carriers, brokers, drivers, customers, jobsites, and APE branches
- Track shipments and quickly resolve delays, equipment problems, missed pickups, and other transportation issues
- Coordinate movement of damaged or out-of-service equipment between customers, branches, and repair facilities
- Create and maintain freight purchase orders
- Review and reconcile freight charges and work with Accounting and Billing to resolve discrepancies
- Maintain accurate shipment and freight-cost records
- Analyze freight spending and recurring equipment movements to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Assist with international and cross-border shipments, including required transportation and customs documentation
Qualifications:
Required:
- 5 years of hands-on experience in trucking, freight, dispatch, transportation, heavy equipment logistics, or freight brokerage
- Practical knowledge of truck and trailer types, including flatbeds, step decks, RGNs/lowboys, and heavy-haul equipment
- Experience booking freight and working directly with carriers and brokers
- Ability to understand equipment dimensions and weights and determine appropriate transportation requirements
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive shipments simultaneously
- Confident, professional communication with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal teams
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Conroe, Texas
Strongly Preferred:
- Heavy-haul and oversized/overweight transportation experience
- Experience with construction equipment, cranes, foundation equipment, industrial machinery, or equipment rental
- Knowledge of permitting and routing requirements for oversized loads
- International or cross-border freight experience
- ERP or transportation-management-system experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
