POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Accounting is the senior leader responsible for the integrity, timeliness, and usefulness of our financial information across a complex, multi-location dealership—spanning whole goods, parts, service, transportation, and settlements. This position will lead the monthly close, drive controls and compliance, modernize processes and systems, and equip the executive team with actionable insights to support growth and operational excellence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Own the monthly and quarterly close and consolidated financial statements, ensure accuracy under US GAAP and consistency across locations and departments.
- Lead accounting within the company including controller, AP, AR/collections, payroll, and settlements with clear goals, KPIs, coaching and succession planning.
- Manage operational accounting for dealerships, including inventory costing for wholegoods and parts, work in process for service ROs, warranty and settlement accounting, freight and trucking allocations, and floorplan interest calculations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by overseeing sales and use tax, property tax, dealer licensing, revenue recognition, fixed asset accounting. Design and monitor internal controls to maintain audit readiness and safeguard financial integrity.
- Coordinate banking and OEMs, prepare borrowing base certificates, covenant reporting, OEM submissions, and dealer financial reporting, ensuring accuracy of all submissions.
- Optimization of the Dealer Management System (DMS/ERP), chart of account governance, aligning standard job pricing, and automation of AP workflows, reconciliations, and dashboards.
- Collaborate with Sales, Parts, Service, Transportation, HR/Payroll, and Location Managers to translate operational activity into reliable financial results and actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.
- Lead and develop a high-performing, service-oriented accounting team. Set clear standards for accuracy, responsiveness, and ethical conduct, foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
- 10 years of progressive accounting leadership, including multi-entity or multi-location operations; dealership, distribution manufacturing, or capital equipment experience is a plus.
- Expert knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and audit practices.
- Hands-on experience with inventory/WIP accounting, cost accounting, and consolidations.
- Proven success leading teams through system upgrades and process redesign.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics modules, and Power BI.
- Strong communicator who can simplify complexity for non-finance leaders and influence cross-functional decisions.
- High integrity, ownership mindset, and bias for continuous improvement.
