Summary:

This position is responsible for performing inspections, checks, tests, and procedure audits of the fabrication and assembly of both products and parts manufactured on site or received from third party vendors. Other duties include inspecting ensuring that all materials, parts, and finished products meet or exceed both industry and company standards for quality and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect first piece set-ups done by operators
  • Perform article inspections per customer requirements
  • Give clear instructions to operators on critical dimensions to be monitored
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems that may arise on the production floor
  • Work directly with customer care and sales regarding inconsistencies and judgment calls
  • Inspect incoming sub contracted or third party items
  • Ensure that the services provided are performed in accordance with the project requirements and contract with the client
  • Provide constructive feedback to fabricators / operators regarding product assembly, finishing and any necessary re-work
  • Demonstrate ability to multi-task and properly execute multiple simultaneous assignments without sacrificing efficiency or quality of the work
  • Read material sheet tags and determines material types and gages
  • Keep work environment clean, safe and orderly
  • Accurately count and record production activity
  • Record inspected job numbers
  • Note on plots any areas needing attention or ways to improve processes
  • Meet and maintain quality and performance expectations including efficiencies and productivity standards
  • Demonstrate understanding of print reading and geometric tolerances and how they relate to the finished part.
  • Measure work piece dimensions to determine accuracy
  • Identify areas for process improvement, cost and waste reduction
  • Demonstrate initiative and willingness to undertake increased responsibility
  • Exhibit ability to prioritize and plan work activities, manage time efficiently and meet objectives to complete projects
  • Demonstrate team work by working well with others, offering assistance, responding positively to constructive feedback

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • 1 years experience in a sheet metal environment
  • 2 years of QC or related experience in a Manufacturing environment
  • Excellent ability to read blue prints including U.S. customary and metric dimensions, as well as angle projections and welding symbols.
  • Understand GD&T and have the ability to use basic mechanical inspection hand tools, such as: micrometers, calipers, protractors, thread rings & plugs, pin gauges.
  • Ability to operate a fork lift in conjunction with all safety rules and regulations

Preferred Requirements:

  • Welding program diploma preferred
  • CWI Inspection Certification preferred or ability to obtain certification when classes available
  • Ability to understand verbal and written details to complete assignments or jobs
  • Ability to identify and communicate with management regarding any machine and quality issues
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy of work performed
  • Excellent understanding of safety practices and procedures in fabricating environment

Routine Physical Requirements:

Usual and customary methods of performing this job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting and/or moving (25 pounds regularly, 50-100 occasionally and with mechanical assistance), standing (up to 12 hours), carrying, pushing, reaching and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stopping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
