Position Summary
The Quality Improvement Coordinator assumes the responsibility for the Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI) in coordination with the Director of Nursing of the facility. The position involves responsibilities in areas of quality assurance, adverse event monitoring, performance improvement and reporting, analysis, interpretation, education, evaluation and recommendations. The coordinator has detailed understanding and can skillfully use the techniques of system design, reengineering, project management, quality improvement, outcomes measurement, and statistical analysis. The coordinator is responsible for conformance to regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, and corporate policy by the facility's quality improvement program

Collaborates with all levels of nursing personnel as well as with facility consultants, physicians and department managers and other department employees in assessing needs for quality assurance and performance improvement. Provides QAPI related education.

Qualifications
- PROFESSIONAL
- Current state licensure (either a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse)
- Completed nursing program or equivalent required.
- Advanced educational preparation in QAPI.
- Preferably a minimum of one year in QAPI.
- Progressive nursing experience with demonstrated leadership and teaching abilities.
- Demonstrated skill in management principles of planning, organizing, and directing.
- PERSONAL
- Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Must have knowledge and awareness of the care needs of the elderly and/or chronically ill.
- Must have knowledge and ability to teach adult learners.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must be able to organize, analyze, investigate and implement principles of infection control committee.
- POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

- Make recommendations to the administrator and director of nurses on how to maintain an efficient, cost-effective program.
- Supervises employees who lead or facilitate quality improvement activities, provide project management, data analysis and measurement of outcomes, document and report the results and accomplishments of quality improvement initiatives.
- Has input and impact on budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural change in order to achieve and maintain an efficient, cost-effective program.
- Oversees and monitors the development and implementation of the quality improvement program.
- Performs under minimal supervision with accountability for specific goals/objectives. Works with the Administrator and Director of Nurses, Medical Director, and others to develop performance improvement targets for quality, service, and efficiency of the organization.
- Provides leadership for implementing changes targeted at systems improvement. Measures and evaluates attainment of results.
- j. Applies, teaches, and skillfully uses techniques for system design, reengineering, quality improvement, outcomes measurement, and statistical analysis. Assures that improvement activities are documented and reported within the organization and externally as appropriate.
- Demonstrates problem solving, leadership, conflict management, and team building skills in order to ensure a productive work environment and achievement of goals. Reviews medical record documentation for infection identification, antibiotic use and appropriate transmission based precaution implementation. Documents the reason and need for specific transmission based precautions, if used.
- Executes walking rounds assessing segments of the resident population at risk for and monitoring for indicators and performance measures.
- Provides new employee orientation related to quality assurance and performance improvement practices. Provides continuing education to center staff related to QAPI. Functions as a resource to staff related to QAPI practices.
- Prepares for and chairs the QAPI Committee review, revises, approves and maintains QAPI policy and procedures
- Any other duties assigned by the Director of Nursing associated with QAPI and education of staff.
