What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Business Development Manager – Air & Ocean position at Altius Talent | Freight Forwarding Recruitment?
Senior Business Development Manager – Air & Ocean Freight Forwarding – Dallas, TX
Freight Forwarding | Dallas, TX (Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex)
$90,000 – $140,000 Base Uncapped Commission Car Allowance | OTE $180K
WHY THIS ROLE
The Dallas branch has doubled its air and ocean volumes in 24 months. The next growth phase needs a commercial operator to own new-logo acquisition across the Texas Triangle, with full operational and pricing support behind them and a clear lane into semiconductor capital equipment, aerospace MRO, and industrial project cargo through DFW and Houston.
ABOUT
Founded in 1986 in Amsterdam, this global freight forwarder operates across 85 countries with 21,000 people. What makes the seat winnable is the product: transatlantic eastbound air charter, a deep transpacific ocean product, and vertical depth in semiconductor capital equipment, aerospace MRO, and industrial projects. Dallas has been a designated US growth hub since 2022, with direct air gateway out of DFW and ocean coverage via Houston, Long Beach, and Savannah. The business has stayed independent of private equity, which shows up in reinvestment into commercial teams, origin control, and tech stack.
WHAT YOU'LL DELIVER
- 30–40 named-account shippers across the Texas Triangle generating 3x base salary in GP by month 18.
- 8–10 qualified first meetings per month across semiconductor, aerospace MRO, and industrial project cargo.
- Ownership of the Dallas RFQ/RFP bid desk alongside pricing, targeting tenders above $250K annual revenue.
- 3x pipeline coverage maintained in CargoWise and Salesforce against quarterly target.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 4 years commercial air and ocean freight forwarding sales in the US market.
- Commercial track record you can walk through: accounts won, lanes developed, GP history, shipper relationships built over time.
- Vertical exposure in at least one of: semiconductor capital equipment, aerospace MRO, high-tech, industrial project cargo, or oil and gas.
- Active CRM discipline in CargoWise, Salesforce, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of AMS/ACE filings, HTS classification, and the commercial difference between NVOCC and master-loader operating models.
This role is focused on air and ocean freight forwarding. Candidates from adjacent product lines are welcome if you can evidence commercial credibility and willingness to reorient your pipeline.
WHAT'S ON OFFER
The compensation is built for commercial operators. Base $90,000 – $140,000 depending on experience. Uncapped commission pays 12% of GP from month one, with a 15% accelerator above quota and a $5,000 quarterly kicker for hitting pipeline coverage targets. No cap, no monthly clawback. Strong operators clear $180K OTE in year one and scale from there. Car allowance included. Full medical, dental, and vision from day one, 401k with 5% employer match, and 20 days PTO plus US public holidays.
Hybrid work model with Dallas office visits as required and field-heavy territory coverage expected. Behind the role sits the support you need to win: a pricing desk with 24-hour turnaround, an inside sales team for lead qualification, vertical-specific marketing content, and ops leadership that retains what you bring in. You'll sell a product with genuine depth. No scrambling to explain why the forwarder can't cover a lane.
Progression track to Senior BDM within 24 months and Branch Sales Manager thereafter. Because the business has stayed PE-independent, the commercial book you build here still belongs to you through the next cycle.
Salary : $90,000 - $140,000
