About the Role
Berna Constructions is hiring skilled commercial service plumbers to handle the field work behind our recurring-maintenance and capital-project pipeline. This is a hands-on role for a licensed technician who can walk into a mechanical room and read the system — not just swap parts. You'll service and troubleshoot across high-rises, HOAs, hotels, and restaurants, keeping critical building systems running and completing capital upgrades on schedule.
The work demands real system fluency: boilers, pressure-reducing valves (PRVs), reduced-pressure zone assemblies (RPZs), booster and return pumps, and zone balancing.
What You'll Do
- Perform commercial service, maintenance, and repair on plumbing and hydronic systems
- Diagnose and service boilers, PRVs, RPZs, backflow assemblies, and booster/return pumps
- Balance zones and troubleshoot pressure and flow issues across multi-story buildings
- Execute plumbing scopes on capital projects to spec and on schedule
- Estimate jobs and build accurate materials lists
- Complete digital field reports and service documentation on every visit
- Ensure all work meets Chicago plumbing codes and Illinois requirements
What You Bring
- Active Illinois plumbing license (current and in good standing)
- 5–10 years of commercial service experience
- Working knowledge of Chicago plumbing codes
- Fluency with boilers, PRVs, RPZs, booster/return pumps, and zone balancing
- Ability to estimate jobs and build materials lists
- Comfort with digital field-reporting tools
- Your own tools and reliable transportation
- A strong, organized work ethic
