What are the responsibilities and job description for the Relocation Payroll Tax Analyst position at Altair Global Services, LLC?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Relocation Payroll Tax Analyst is the liaison between Global Financial Services and client HR/Payroll. Relocation Payroll Tax Analysts are responsible for accurate reporting of global mobility benefits in compliance with the Internal Revenue Service. This includes calculating, documenting, reporting, and communicating with customers, clients, management, vendors, and internal partners to accurately “gross up” and/or tax treat the wages as related to relocation expenses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Collect year to date wage data from various client payroll contacts and input into relocation tax software.
• Utilize critical thinking and analytical skillset to interpret data, make decisions and ask questions.
• Utilize understanding of payroll, relocation, and accounting to impute relocation expenses into income timely and correctly reducing risk of payroll errors and W2c’s.
• Process gross up calculations using relocation tax software, audit tax gross up results for accuracy.
• Respond to customers, client, or internal inquiries pertinent to gross ups, tax treatments, withholdings, and payroll reporting.
• Prepare and deliver all client Global Mobility payroll reports based on approved deliverables schedule.
• Escalate complex or problematic situations to management for timely resolution.
• Collaborate with client payroll/HR and internal partners to send/receive payroll files via assigned document exchange process.
• Create & Issue year-end tax reports based on client preferences.
• Investigate & identify variances through reconciliation process and alert internal partners for timely resolution.
• Exposure to Domestic Short-Term Assignments and International Assignments to accurately audit and report expenses to client payroll.
• Perform peer reviews of client payroll reports as requested.
• Engage with various levels of employees, client contacts and internal stakeholders to provide a superior experience.
• Attend implementation calls and provide guidance of best practices.
• Operate as subject matter expert regarding taxable expenses as it relates to IRS guidelines and U.S domestic tax laws and regulations as it relates to Global Mobility.
• Any additional projects, activities, and/or ad-hoc requests as needed by Altair management

- High school diploma or equivalent combination of experience, skills, training, and education required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.

TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
• 2 years of experience within relocation industry, consulting firm or multinational company in an accounting position with hands-on experience in tax assistance/payroll processing
• General knowledge of accounting principles, concepts, and practices
• General knowledge of domestic and international relocation expense processing concepts, processes, and practices
• General knowledge of payroll processing procedures, payroll tax withholding procedures and tax gross ups
• General knowledge of current domestic and international relocation tax laws and regulations
• Expertise using multiple software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and one or more current accounting software packages
• Intermediate MS Excel experience to utilize for audit purposes, such as formulas, pivot tables and v-lookups.
• Must be able to multi-task and handle a high-volume transaction workload quickly and accurately
• Must be able to remain calm while working under pressure and against deadlines
• Able to communicate confidential and sensitive information to/with colleagues, clients, customers at all levels
• Strong audit experience working with numerical data for extended periods of time.
WORK/PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Office setting and/or home office work environment. Team member must be able to operate standard office equipment. Team member spends substantial amount of time working on the computer, on the phone speaking with customers and working under deadlines.
