ALTA IT is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with a strong background in UI, Web Services, and Mobile Test Automation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust automation frameworks and test scripts. This is a hybrid position requiring on-site presence in Reston, VA, as needed by the project team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Analyze User Stories and Acceptance Criteria to design and implement in-sprint automation test scripts for Web/UI, Web Services, and Mobile Applications.

2. Develop automation scripts using tools like Selenium, Cucumber, SoapUI, and BDD frameworks.

3. Design and maintain automation frameworks aligned with industry best practices.

4. Create detailed test plans and test cases, execute them, and analyze results.

5. Identify, document, and track defects using Jira; investigate root causes.

6. Communicate testing progress, risks, and results via regular status reports.

7. Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins) to run automated regression and smoke tests.

8. Conduct ongoing research and training to enhance testing tools and technical knowledge.

9. Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to verify and validate user requirements.

10. Participate in regular Agile ceremonies and project meetings (e.g., peer reviews, walkthroughs, retrospectives).

11. Support test data creation and environmental setup for various testing phases.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.

• In lieu of a degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience required.

Experience:

• 8–10 years in software development/testing, including 5 years in test automation framework development.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of automation framework architecture and design patterns.

• Solid experience with Java, JavaScript, and SQL/PL-SQL.

• Hands-on with tools like Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber, Appium, and SoapUI.

• Proficient in BDD, CI/CD, and test reporting frameworks.

• Strong background in RESTful Web Services automation.

• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MS SQL Server, Oracle, DB2) and crafting complex queries.

• Exposure to both Agile and Waterfall SDLC methodologies.

• Comfortable working across different platforms: Windows, Linux, UNIX, and technologies like .NET, Web apps, etc.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to Have (Preferred but Not Required)

• Experience with test data management tools

• Familiarity with performance or security testing

• Knowledge of cloud-based testing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure)
