ALTA IT Services is seeking a Senior Database Engineer for a healthcare client with extensive experience in managing and migrating databases in cloud environments (AWS preferred). This is a hands-on, senior-level role that requires deep expertise in PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and/or MongoDB, as well as familiarity with a variety of relational and NoSQL databases. The ideal candidate will lead cloud migration initiatives, ensure performance and reliability of database systems, and provide strategic input on architecture, security, and automation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain cloud-native and hybrid database architectures to support enterprise applications and analytics.

• Lead migrations of on-prem databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) to AWS using services like RDS, Aurora, Redshift, or similar.

• Provision, configure, and manage cloud database services in AWS and optionally Azure or GCP.

• Support and troubleshoot on-prem and cloud-based databases, ensuring availability, performance, and security.

• Perform backup/recovery, replication, disaster recovery, and high availability configurations.

• Automate deployments and environment provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.

• Work collaboratively with development, DevOps, and security teams to ensure data governance, compliance, and operational efficiency.

• Implement monitoring and alerting solutions using tools like CloudWatch, Datadog, or Prometheus.

• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and develop long-term preventive strategies.

• Maintain and enforce database standards, documentation, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• 7 years of experience in database engineering or administration.

• At least 4 years in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).

• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server in cloud-hosted contexts.

• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS, Aurora, Redshift, or similar services.

• Experience managing and migrating on-prem databases to the cloud.

• Proficient in NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, or Cassandra (a plus).

• Proficient in scripting languages like Bash, Python, or PowerShell.

• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps workflows, and Git-based source control.

• Deep understanding of data security, IAM, encryption, and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, FedRAMP).

• Strong performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• AWS Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Solutions Architect).

• Experience with multi-cloud environments (Azure, GCP).

• Familiarity with data warehousing and ETL pipelines.

• Experience with containerized DB deployments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
