Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and report variances with actionable insights.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Conduct scenario modeling and sensitivity analyses for new projects, land acquisitions, and development phases.
Construction Accounting & Job Costing
- Oversee construction job costing and ensure accurate allocation of direct and indirect costs.
- Review project budgets, cost codes, and purchase orders in coordination with Project Managers.
- Track Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and margin projections per community or phase.
- Maintain cost-to-complete reporting and support draw requests with lenders.
Cash Flow & Financing
- Manage cash flow forecasting and banking relationships.
- Oversee construction loan draws, equity contributions, and compliance with lender covenants.
- Assist in securing financing for land development and vertical construction.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and California state tax regulations, and local reporting requirements.
- Oversee internal controls, including segregation of duties, approval hierarchies, and audit preparedness.
- Support annual financial audits and tax filings with external accountants.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise accounting and finance staff (AP, AR, Payroll, and Job Costing functions).
- Collaborate with Operations, Land Development, and Sales to align financial objectives.
- Provide executive management with key performance indicators (KPIs) and strategic insights.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- 5–10 years of progressive experience in construction, homebuilding, or real estate development accounting.
- Strong understanding of construction job costing, WIP accounting, and percentage-of-completion methods.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate, BuilderTREND, or similar).
Skills
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling.
- Strong knowledge of California tax and regulatory environment.
- Exceptional organizational and leadership skills.
