Hours:
- Typical scheduled hours will fall between Monday-Friday, 6:00am – 5:30pm; in rotating 9 hour shifts.
- Flexibility will be required to fill shifts as needed Monday-Friday until 8:00pm. This position is part of working weekend and holiday rotation (roughly one weekend per month).
- Weekend and holiday hours are 8:00am-3:00pm
Position Objective
The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for accurately collecting specimens and performing provider ordered lab tests, reporting timely results, and aiding the provider in patient diagnosis and management. The Medical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
Specimen Collection
- Proficient in capillary, venous, and arterial blood collection
- Obtain or collect body fluids, tissue, and other substances to aid the laboratory in determining normal and abnormal findings
- Interpret, research, and carryout Provider laboratory testing orders
Maintenance and Quality Control
- Ensure that all laboratory equipment and analyzers are performing as expected
- Take responsibility for quality control, standards, calibrations, etc. to ensure that all systems are performing within established laboratory guidelines
- Maintain an environment of privacy, safety , and integrity for all patients, at all times
Perform Lab Testing
Osakis Medical Clinic performs Waived Testing, Alexandria Clinic Laboratory performs Moderate Complexity testing and Alomere Health performs High Complexity testing. Responsibilities will be assigned according to the facility CLIA license.
- Process and perform testing of lab specimens to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Provide lab testing in: Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Microbiology, Pathology, Toxicology, Urinalysis.
- Process and direct laboratory specimens to the appropriate reference lab when needed.
Lab Results
- Report normal and abnormal test results to the Provider/Nurse as required
- Report Alert or Critical value results to the appropriate personnel
Other Responsibilities
- Perform Urine Drug Screen collections and breath Alcohol Testing
- Perform all other related duties as assigned in a professional and responsive manner
- Demonstrate the ability to use relevant equipment
- Support, understand, and promote Alomere Health’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures
- Ability to meet the work schedule requirements with flexibility dependent upon the needs of the department

Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Medical Technology
- Board of Certification, Medical Laboratory Technician
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a health care facility
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge in proper specimen collection; including specimen requirements, integrity of specimen, isolation procedures, timed blood draws, and aseptic technique
- Strong understanding of the importance of patient identification and correct species labeling
- Ability to give instructions clearly and accurately for patient collected specimens
- Ability to train students and new employees as needed
