Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, rigorous, and highly traveled Senior Data Center Commissioning Specialist - Electrical to lead on-site commissioning activities for state-of-the-art data center facilities. In this role, you will spearhead all electrical commissioning operations-spanning equipment start-ups, QA/QC validations, and rigorous Level 4 (L4) and Level 5 (L5) functional performance testing-while overseeing and supporting contractor L0-L3 construction checkouts.

This is a critical, highly mobile engineering role for a commissioning expert who excels at client collaboration and electrical reliability. You will interface directly with project owners, trade contractors, and stakeholders to ensure every electrical power system, standby generator, UPS, switchgear, and life safety component operates at peak safety, efficiency, and design intent. If you possess deep expertise in mission-critical electrical commissioning, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Execution & Testing Leadership
L4 & L5 Testing Leadership: Lead, execute, and document advanced Level 4 (Component/System Functional Testing) and Level 5 (Integrated Systems / Operational Readiness Testing) electrical commissioning activities.
L0-L3 Oversight: Oversee, inspect, and support contractor-driven L0 through L3 construction checkouts, ensuring robust quality control, pre-functional verification, and installation integrity.
Equipment Start-Up: Direct and monitor the safe energization, testing, and start-up of complex electrical power distribution equipment (e.g., medium/low-voltage switchgear, transformers, UPS units, generators, and power quality meters).
Deficiency Tracking & Resolution: Identify, document, and track commissioning issues and punch-list items through to complete resolution, ensuring seamless handover to operations teams.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Compliance
Client & Contractor Interface: Act as the primary technical representative interfacing with company clients, project stakeholders, and electrical contractors to drive optimal facility outcomes.
Code & Standard Adherence: Ensure all electrical installations, testing protocols, and safety practices strictly comply with NFPA codes, NETA standards, NICET guidelines, and local regulations.
Documentation & Reporting: Prepare accurate commissioning scripts, logs, and final turnover reports documenting electrical system performance against owner project requirements (OPR).

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Sciences, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and progressive field experience).
Experience Baseline:
oMinimum of 10 years of progressive professional experience as an electrical commissioning specialist across utility infrastructure, life safety, electrical power systems, low-voltage systems, and facility operations.
oMinimum of 2-3 years of focused, hands-on experience documenting L2/L3 construction activities and leading L4/L5 functional testing specifically within Data Center environments.
Technical Mastery:
oWorking knowledge of NFPA, NETA, and NICET electrical testing protocols and code requirements.
oSolid understanding of the commercial/mission-critical construction lifecycle.
Regulatory & Mobility Requirements:
oU.S. Citizenship is strictly required for security clearance and facility access.
oMust be able to successfully clear a comprehensive background check.
oAbility to travel up to 95% to active data center job sites nationwide.
Core Competencies: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills; ability to manage complex site dynamics and drive consensus among multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Attributes
Industry-recognized commissioning certifications (e.g., BCxA, CxA, or equivalent).
Specialized certifications: NFPA 70E, IR Thermography Level 1 or Level 2, AWS/L4 lead certification, or OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
Direct experience utilizing Power Quality Meters (PQMs) and conducting advanced electrical harmonic and load transient analysis.
