- Our client, a USDA-inspected beef processing facility, is seeking a hands-on Assistant Plant Manager to support daily production and oversee kill floor operations in Cortez, Colorado.
- Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for supervising kill floor and processing operations in a floor-based leadership capacity. The Assistant Plant Manager will work alongside production staff while helping oversee slaughter operations, custom processing, packaging coordination, regulatory compliance, and production flow. This role is well suited for someone with prior supervisory experience in a USDA-inspected beef processing environment who can lead from the floor and help maintain safety, quality, and throughput.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and work alongside production staff on the kill floor in a hands-on leadership role.
- Support daily slaughter operations, including stunning, shackling, bleeding, hide removal, evisceration, trimming, and carcass wash, as needed to maintain production flow.
- Oversee processing of customer-owned cattle from intake through cut-to-spec processing, packaging, and distribution.
- Train, assign, and monitor kill floor and processing employees to support productivity, quality, safety, and compliance.
- Help enforce USDA, FSIS, HACCP, SSOP, humane handling, sanitation, and plant safety standards throughout operations.
- Coordinate with USDA inspectors and address operational or compliance issues during production.
- Assist with production scheduling, equipment readiness, troubleshooting, sanitation oversight, cooler checks, and yield monitoring.
- Maintain production and compliance records related to processing, food safety, and animal handling.
- Partner with packaging and distribution teams to support order accuracy, labeling, and on-time completion.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and support continuous improvement efforts to reduce downtime and improve line efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in USDA-inspected beef slaughter operations.
- Experience supervising or leading employees on a kill floor or in beef processing operations.
- Knowledge of humane handling, HACCP, SSOP, and USDA FSIS requirements in a red meat processing environment.
- Experience performing or overseeing core kill floor functions within a beef processing plant.
- Experience working in a production environment with daily throughput goals and inspected processing standards.
- Ability to maintain production, compliance, and operational records in a plant setting.
Compensation:
- Base salary in the 90k - 120k/year range
