Inventory & Material Handler Job Description 

Department: Shipping/Receiving

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Location: On-site
Reports to: Purchasing Manager

Role Summary

The Inventory & Material Handler is responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, organizing, staging, and tracking raw materials and production supplies used throughout the sign manufacturing process.

This position helps ensure Production has the correct materials available when needed while maintaining accurate inventory records and clean, safe, and organized material storage areas.

The Inventory & Material Handler works closely with Purchasing, Fabrication, CNC Routing, Production, and other departments to support material availability and prevent production delays caused by missing, damaged, misplaced, or incorrectly inventoried materials.

Success in this position requires organization, reliability, attention to detail, safety awareness, and a willingness to take ownership of material storage and inventory accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Receiving & Inspection

  • Receive incoming raw materials, production supplies, and deliveries.

  • Verify received quantities against purchase orders, packing slips, and other receiving documentation.

  • Inspect materials for visible damage, incorrect dimensions, shortages, or other discrepancies.

  • Report damaged, missing, or incorrect materials promptly.

  • Accurately record received materials in company inventory and production systems.

  • Label materials appropriately to maintain identification and traceability.

  • Ensure materials are routed to the correct storage location, department, or job.

Material Handling & Staging
  • Safely move materials throughout production and storage areas.

  • Pull materials based on production needs and requests.

  • Stage materials for upcoming CNC Router, Fabrication, and production work.

  • Coordinate with production leads to anticipate upcoming material needs.

  • Deliver materials to designated production areas.

  • Return unused materials to their proper inventory locations.

  • Properly identify and store usable remnants and leftover materials.

  • Prevent unnecessary material damage during movement, storage, and staging.

  • Keep aisles, walkways, loading areas, and production areas clear of improperly stored materials.

Production Support

  • Work with Fabrication and CNC Router employees to ensure required materials are available for scheduled work.

  • Prepare materials for upcoming production needs.

  • Communicate material shortages or availability concerns before they create production delays.

  • Assist production employees with locating materials.

  • Support movement of completed components, raw materials, and supplies when required.

  • Help maintain an efficient flow of materials throughout the production facility.

  • Respond to changing production priorities and material needs.

Safety & Equipment

  • Follow all company safety policies and material-handling procedures.

  • Use appropriate PPE.

  • Follow proper lifting and material-handling techniques.

  • Safely operate authorized material-handling equipment after required training.

  • Inspect equipment before use when required.

  • Report damaged equipment, unsafe storage conditions, spills, hazards, and other safety concerns promptly.

  • Maintain safe stacking and storage practices.

  • Keep emergency equipment, electrical panels, exits, aisles, and walkways accessible.

  • Participate in required company safety training.

Salary : $17 - $20
