What are the responsibilities and job description for the Flooring Sales and Design Associate position at Allied Flooring, Paint and Design and Budget Cabinets?
Flooring Sales & Design Specialist — Agawam, MA (On-site)
ABOUT ALLIED FLOORING & PAINT
Allied Flooring & Paint is a leading provider of flooring, paint, cabinets, and related home improvement products, with multiple locations across Massachusetts and Connecticut. We serve property management and multifamily, builder and remodeler, commercial, and residential customers. Great work starts with a solid foundation — ours is our people.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring a Flooring Sales & Design Specialist for our Agawam showroom. You'll pair design sense with sales ability to help customers choose the right flooring for their space — and you'll own the sale end to end: the first conversation, the product consultation, the quote, the measure, the install coordination, and anything that comes up after.
This is a consultative sales role, not a retail cashier position.
Compensation is base salary plus uncapped commission with typical pay ranges between $65,000 - $75,000 annually. The posted range reflects typical income, not a ceiling — top performers earn more. A first-year guarantee can be discussed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Greet and qualify showroom customers; handle incoming phone and email inquiries
- Consult on flooring and renovation needs — matching product to function, traffic, style, and budget
- Demonstrate products hands-on and surface add-on opportunities
- Schedule measures with our measure technicians and attend occasional on-site customer meetings
- Write and present quotes, and close the sale
- Schedule installations and coordinate with install teams
- Follow up with customers and resolve issues that arise
- Use slower periods to drive business — working open quotes, building referral relationships, and maintaining a professional social media presence with support from our marketing director
- Keep the showroom and your desk clean and organized
WHAT MAKES SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL HERE
- Composure under pressure — jobs occasionally go wrong. We need someone who stays level and works the problem.
- Ownership — bring exceptions and unusual requests to management instead of telling a customer "my manager won't allow it." We'll almost always find a way.
- Tactful persistence — comfortable asking for the business and following up without being pushy.
- Adaptability — we're growing. Processes and systems change.
- Attention to detail — accurate quotes, thorough notes, reliable follow-through.
- Team mentality — two salespeople share this floor. You cover for each other and coordinate time off between you.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Flooring industry sales experience strongly preferred
- Showroom, design center, or consultative sales experience also strongly considered — kitchen and bath, furniture, appliances, windows, tile, lighting, or similar
- Comfortable with computers; literate in Word, Outlook, and basic programs
- Basic math skills for quoting and measurements
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple customers at once
- Strong in-person and phone communication, plus the organization to keep client and internal communication straight
- Nice to have: knowledge of renovation processes and construction practices; interior design or layout planning experience
For the right candidate with the right instincts, we'll train on product, process, and our QFloors software.
SCHEDULE
Two-week rotation, in person at our Agawam showroom:
- Week 1: Mon–Wed 8–5, Thu 10–7, Fri 8–5
- Week 2: Tue–Fri 8–5, Sat 9–3
One evening shift every other week and one Saturday every other week — never both in the same week. No regular Sunday hours (we open 1–2 Sundays a year).
Join a team that values hard work, customer satisfaction, and professional growth.
Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
