About the Role:

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with nurse practitioners and other healthcare staff. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.

We are excited to announce we are looking for a Full-Time, Medical Assistant at Upstate Gastroenterology - Troy NY in Troy, NY

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
  • Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners, during medical procedures and examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy and draw blood samples accurately and safely.
  • Process and label specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain a clean clinical environment to prevent infection.
  • Answer phones, schedule patient appointments, and manage patient flow within the clinic.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Support administrative tasks such as billing, coding, and inventory management as required.


Skills:

The required skills such as Medical Assisting, phlebotomy, and specimen processing are essential for performing clinical duties accurately and safely, ensuring patient comfort and compliance with health standards. Proficiency with medical instruments and sterilization techniques helps maintain a hygienic environment, reducing the risk of infection. Drawing blood and taking vital signs are routine tasks that require precision and attention to detail to support diagnostic processes. Effective communication skills, including answering phones and coordinating with nurse practitioners, facilitate smooth patient flow and enhance the overall patient experience. Preferred skills like familiarity with electronic health records and multitasking enable the Medical Assistant to manage administrative responsibilities efficiently while supporting clinical operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • At least 1 year experience in a Medical office or Healthcare environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Proficiency in taking and recording vital signs accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization procedures.
  • Strong communication skills for patient interaction and administrative duties.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a healthcare or clinical setting.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Additional certifications such as CPR or First Aid.
