Senior Accountant (Inventory) Position Summary
Alliance Resource Group is partnering with a client to identify a Senior Accountant who will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of inventory-related financial activity. This position supports inventory accounting processes, contributes to month-end close, prepares key analyses, and collaborates cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and Warehouse partners to ensure inventory is properly valued, tracked, and reported. This role is critical to maintaining strong inventory controls and delivering timely, accurate financial information.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review inventory-related journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Perform detailed inventory account reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor and maintain inventory subledger activity, including adjustments, shrink, transfers, and write-offs.
- Calculate, analyze, and maintain inventory reserves (e.g., obsolescence, shrink, slow-moving inventory).
- Prepare monthly inventory reporting packages, including flux/variance analysis and key operational metrics.
- Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and ensure proper documentation and support.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve inventory issues, improve processes, and provide operational reporting.
- Support cycle counts, physical inventory observations/procedures, and related audit requirements.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field with an accounting concentration.
Experience
- 5–7 years of cost accounting and/or inventory accounting experience.
- Experience managing full-cycle inventory close processes.
- Strong understanding of inventory valuation, costing, and operational workflows.
- Proficiency with month-end close and general ledger processes.
Knowledge / Technical Skills
- Strong technical accounting skills, including preparation and review of journal entries.
- Intermediate to advanced experience with account reconciliations.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Industry experience preferred in grocery retail, warehousing/distribution, or other high-volume environments.
- Experience preparing financial reporting and variance analysis.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- High numerical aptitude and strong analytical capability to identify root causes of inventory issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to train/cross-train and support staff accountants as needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
Pay: Up to $100,000.00 per year
