What Is a BDC?
The Business Development Center (BDC) is the communication hub of the dealership. The BDC team manages incoming customer inquiries and proactive outreach with one primary goal: setting quality appointments for the sales team. BDC representatives do not sell vehicles directly; they create the opportunity for sales by engaging customers, answering initial questions, and guiding them to the next step in the buying process.
Position Overview
The BDC Sales Representative handles inbound and outbound phone calls, internet leads, and digital inquiries. This role plays a critical part in the dealership’s lead management strategy and overall customer experience. The position operates in a structured, call-center-style environment with clear goals and performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities:

Respond promptly to inbound calls, internet leads, and customer inquiries via phone, email, and text

Make outbound calls to follow up with unsold leads, previous customers, service clients, and targeted marketing lists

Set and confirm appointments for the sales team while accurately logging all activity in the CRM

Use scripts and proven processes to engage customers, overcome objections, and build interest

Provide a professional, friendly, and consistent customer experience

Educate customers on current offers, vehicle availability, and dealership services

Maintain detailed and accurate records of all customer interactions and follow-ups

Meet or exceed daily, weekly, and monthly call and appointment-setting goals

Participate in ongoing training and coaching to improve performance

Maintain confidentiality of customer and dealership information

Assist with additional BDC or dealership tasks as needed to support business objectives
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in a BDC, call center, customer service, or phone-based sales role preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across phone, email, and text
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and persistent in follow-up
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Comfortable with CRM systems, texting platforms, and basic office software
- Professional, team-oriented attitude with a desire to grow
- Automotive experience is a plus, but not required
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background check, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and drug screening
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Call center-style office environment within a dealership
- Scheduled for 40 hours per week within standard business hours, with varied shifts and rotating Saturdays; occasional extended hours may be required
- Primarily sedentary work with prolonged sitting and computer use
- Manual dexterity for data entry and office equipment
- Occasionally required to lift or move office supplies or records weighing up to 25 lbs
