What are the responsibilities and job description for the EVS Housekeeper position at ALLEN PARISH HOSPITAL DISTRICT NO 3?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The environmental service worker is responsible for cleaning and maintaining environmental and infection control standards according to policy for all areas of the facility both administrative and clinical. The position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility. The position may be required to distribute clean linens to user departments and maintains stock levels on clinical ED floors. The position follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.
JOB FUNCTION:
Patient Rooms:
- Sweep and mop floor.
- Dust furniture, woodwork and equipment.
- Clean and polish fixtures in rooms and bathrooms.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using appropriate, specified bags and/or containers.
- Replace sharps containers as needed.
- Clean vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, blinds, doorframes and other high areas that may require using a ladder.
- Move furniture and other heavy objects as required.
- Refill paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and hand sanitizer dispensers as needed.
- Cleans bathroom, including shower, making sure to disinfect all fixtures, mirrors, doors, floors, and walls.
Discharged Patient Rooms:
- Follow steps of routine cleaning, including disinfecting the mattress and bed frame.
- Perform terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
Storage/Housekeeping room and housekeeping carts:
- Keep work areas neat and orderly, including cleaning housekeeping equipment.
- Keep carts clean and orderly.
Common areas:
- Sweep and mop floors.
- Empty trash.
- Dust and clean furniture and fixtures.
- Wipe and sanitize water fountains.
- Vacuum rugs.
- Clean windows and glass as needed.
- Replenish dispensers as needed.
- Clean restrooms.
- Clean window sills and blinds.
- Assists with evacuations, when needed.
- Steam clean cloth furniture as needed.
Clinical Areas:
- Sweep and mop floors including the nurses’ stations.
- Empty soiled linen.
- Empty sharps containers as needed.
- Wipe down counters and cabinets.
- Wash curtains as needed.
- Clean windows/glass as needed.
- Replenish dispensers as needed.
- Stock linen when needed in the Emergency Room and Therapy Clinic.
- Clean restrooms.
- Steam clean cloth furniture as needed.
Clinics and offices:
- Sweep and mop floors.
- Empty trash.
- Empty soiled linen.
- Wipe down counters, cabinets, and furniture.
- Clean windows/glass as needed.
- Replenish dispensers as needed.
- Clean restrooms.
- Steam clean cloth furniture as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Employee is responsible for any duties assigned by supervisor or director over the department. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be able to read labels on supplies and chemicals.
Job Knowledge: Knowledge of cleaning supplies and basic cleaning skills. Housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Skills: Must be able to follow directions with limited supervision.
Physical Demands: Standing and walking for most of shift; ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.; pushing, pulling, manual dexterity. Constantly in patient care areas performing daily housekeeping functions.
Work Environment: While performing the duties on the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
License: BLS certification
