What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN position at ALLEN PARISH HOSPITAL DISTRICT NO 3?
JOB FUNCTION:
Responsible and accountable for performing direct and indirect patient care according to standards set for quality and compassionate patient care and those duties approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Responsible for initial and on-going patient assessments, developing, planning and implementing appropriate patient care and care plan in accordance with doctor’s orders and evaluating patient response to said care. Responsible for accurate, concise, legible, and timely documentation of all pertinent patient information. Appropriately and professionally communicates between staff members, management, and physicians/NP. The RN functions as an integral part of the nursing team. All tasks must be performed in compliance with established policies and procedures of Allen Parish Community Healthcare and supervised by the Nurse Director, House Supervisor and/or the CNO.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee care of all patients on the Acute unit
- Initial assessments on all admits, initiate appropriate care plans, referrals, discharge planning
- Delegates responsibilities of care when applicable and make patient assignments accordingly
- Properly and accurately administers all medicines as ordered
- Completes through shift change report to oncoming RN, LPN, CNA
- Assists MD, NP or LPN as needed for procedures and rounds with them
- Accurately receives verbal/telephone orders and puts into system correctly
- Works with case management on discharge planning as well as New Vision and proper signatures of paperwork
- Provides and is responsible for quality patient care by thoroughly assessing, evaluating, planning, and implementing nursing care according to hospital polices and procedures ensuring that the patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, and emotional needs are addressed.
- Monitors patient’s condition by making frequent rounds on assigned patients, gathering data necessary to administer care, administers appropriate care and properly and accurately documents such findings. Unusual conditions or changes are reported to the physician/NP promptly. Proficient in CPR and responds immediately to a code blue situation.
- Properly collects, labels, stores and/or delivers specimens such as urine, sputum, etc. utilizing proper universal and/or isolation precautions according to organization’s policy and procedure.
- Proficient in starting IV’s, monitors, maintains, and accurately calculates IV infusions. Moves and/or changes IV site according to policy and procedure.
- Proficient in Med Dispense usage.
- Provides a complete, thorough, and accurate shift-change report to the on-coming RN, LPN, and CNA.
- Attends and participates in required monthly staff meetings, in-services and select committees.
- Assist physician/NP, and/or other staff members when needed and makes rounds with the physicians/NP.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Graduated from an accredited school for nursing
- Complies with LSBN requirements for CEUs
Job Knowledge:
- Knowledge of charting in CPSI preferred
- Knowledge of all registered nursing skills involving direct patient care
- Skills:
- Computer skills preferred
- Emailing; Microsoft Outlook

- Physical Demands:
- Individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment on supports, push beds throughout the hospital, and perform external cardiac compressions.
- The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties.
- The individual must be able to maneuver throughout halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.
- Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills.
- In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.
- A significant amount of writing is required. Trips to various departments will be required.
- Requires prolonged periods of walking, standing and/or sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing and pulling with hands and using fingers repetitively.
- Must be able to work at personal computer or computer terminal.
- Occasional lifting of file/supply boxes is required.
License:
- Current licensure as a RN in the State of Louisiana is required
- BLS/CPR certification is required
- CPI/MOAB/EDGE certification is required
- ACLS certification is required
- PALS certification is preferred for MedSurg; PALS required in ED
