- Graduate from high school, or equivalent.
- Must have thorough education or training in the basics of medical terminology
- Must be bilingual in English/Spanish
- 2 years prior experience as Optometry Technician preferred
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Flexibility/ability to work any open clinic hours.
- Ability and work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently.
- Processes patient’s personal and exam information in the organization’s electronic health record.
- Manage patient flow, and effectively communicate with team members and providers.
- Uncover and prepare exam equipment in the morning, and turn off and cover equipment at the
- Obtain and update patient’s ocular, medical, and family histories and examination data.
- Check condition of patients' eyes by assessing pupils, intraocular pressure, binocular status,
pachymetry and blood pressure when indicated.
- Prepare patients for examination by dilating pupils; reporting patient history summary, changes
- Assist the Optometrist as may be required. Conduct pre-testing and special testing for the
- Pre-testing I – auto refraction, lensometry, and tonometry.
- Pre-testing II – preliminary chief complaint and/or history of present illness, and ocular,
vision assessment, and eye drop instillation when indicated.
- Special testing – visual fields, pachymetry, ocular photography.
- Secure patient information and confidence, by completing and safeguarding medical records;
- Counsel patients by transmitting doctor's orders, reviewing medication use, and reviewing
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns;
procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements.
