Position Overview

All of Us In Recovery is seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist to provide community-based support to individuals participating in North Dakota’s 1915(i) Medicaid program.

The Peer Support Specialist draws on lived experience to help participants recognize their strengths, work toward personal goals, and develop greater independence. This position focuses on building positive relationships, encouraging recovery, and helping participants connect with resources and supports in their community.

Responsibilities

• Meet with participants and provide individualized peer support based on their goals and needs.
• Share appropriate lived experience to provide encouragement, hope, and practical support.
• Help participants make progress toward goals outlined in their individualized service plans.
• Encourage healthy coping strategies, self-advocacy, wellness, and informed decision-making.
• Help participants identify and access community, recovery, healthcare, housing, and social service resources.
• Encourage participation in treatment, recovery activities, and other positive community supports.
• Provide support to individuals working toward increased stability and independence in the community.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while developing trusting relationships with participants.

Documentation & Program Requirements

• Maintain accurate and timely participant records.
• Complete documentation according to 1915(i) guidelines and A.I.R. procedures.
• Protect participant confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, and required training.
• Follow applicable state and federal regulations.
• Practice according to peer support ethics and professional standards.

Required Qualifications

• Current North Dakota Certified Peer Support Specialist certification, or ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
• Personal or family lived experience related to recovery from substance use and/or mental health challenges.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to establish appropriate professional relationships and maintain boundaries.
• Successful completion of required background checks.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to travel within the assigned service area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in peer support or recovery services.
• Background in behavioral health, case management, housing, or community services.
• Understanding of North Dakota 1915(i) services and available community resources.
• Familiarity with Bismarck-area housing, treatment, and recovery resources.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches.

Work Environment

This is a community-based position serving individuals throughout the Bismarck area and Behavioral Health Region 8. Local travel to meet with participants and connect them with community resources is required.
