JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: School Security Officer
Position Qualifications:
- National Association of School Resource Officers Certification
- Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training
- Experience in law enforcement
- Act 120 certification preferred
Reports to: Superintendent of Schools and Director of Pupil Services
Major Job Goals:
- To participate in the district’s safety program.
- To serve as a liaison to all local first responder agencies.
- To implement district-wide monthly training topics by building.
- To provide leadership for state safety requirements of Act 44.
- To provide building guidance in matters related to school safety and student legal matters.
- To build relationships with students leading to the understanding of the positive function of law enforcement officials.
- To perform law enforcement duties when necessary.
- Provide direct instruction to students on related topics.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide a presence for safety and security.
- Serve as a positive role model, endorsing high moral standards and using good judgment and discretion.
- Advise and assist school administrators in handling situations involving possible weapons violations or in the identification of controlled dangerous substances.
- Provide a highly visible presence to support mindset of campus security.
Essential Functions
- Be fully versed in district camera system using it to retrieve video useful in investigations.
- Manage door security systems.
- Emergency Response Training: ALICE: staff training, maintaining for prior staff, initial training for new staff, student training on option-based response (age-appropriate).
- Serve as liaison for any Law Enforcement and First Responder Agency as needed.
- Participate in Student Assistance Program as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings as needed.
- Safe2Say (S2S) Investigations: Assist Admin and follow up on criminal, life-threatening reports coordinating with State Police when necessary.
- Drug Identification: Assist GMSD with confiscated drugs and devices with identification via NIK field testing if applicable.
