Position: Transportation Safety & Behavior Coordinator

Location: Transportation

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Essential Functions

  • Support a safe and positive transportation environment by assisting with student behavior concerns on buses and in loading/unloading areas. Partner with district staff and families to address behavioral issues, reinforce expectations, and implement disciplinary procedures when necessary.
  • Answer and/or direct phone calls and provide information as needed; communicate with students, parents, staff, drivers and members of the public regarding weather and transportation related issues.
  • Report and document incidents such as stop-arm violations, log communications related to students, transportation, and complaints, maintain records on disruptive students, and download videos for submission to law enforcement.
  • Provide guidance and support to transportation personnel in maintaining safe operating procedures and practices.
  • Assist in scheduling bus repairs, maintaining inventory supplies, and other transportation related equipment.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with evolving state and federal laws, including DOT standards and driver certification requirements.
  • Collaborate with the District Trainers to schedule new employee onboarding, maintain driver evaluation calendars, and oversee van training certification requirements.
  • Oversee day-to-day transportation operations in the absence of the Transportation Director.
  • Serve as a backup bus driver and dispatcher by covering open routes and assisting with transportation dispatch operations as needed.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings and required training.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of District policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of the School Crisis Planning Guide; general knowledge of stop arm violation and pre-trip inspection forms and log books; thorough knowledge of mileage recording documents; ability to schedule and monitor transportation staff; ability to operate bus, forklift, and plow truck; ability to operate a two-way radio; general knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Routing and Planning software; ability to make arithmetic calculations; general knowledge of First Aid; ability to implement and model the "Code of Conduct"; ability establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and parents. Knowledge of driver training requirements, DMV regulations, licensing procedures, and Clearinghouse requirements.


Education and Experience

Associates/Technical degree and experience working with transportation safety and student managing student behaviors. Or an equivalent combination of education and similar work experience.

  • Valid commercial driver's license with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.


Compensation:
$25.96 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.


Work Schedule:
8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., including a one-hour lunch break. This position follows a 193-day annual work schedule.
