What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Finance position at Alec's Ice Cream?
About Alec’s Ice Cream
Alec’s Ice Cream is building a next-generation food company focused on naturally better-for-you daily indulgences. We believe consumers should not have to choose between exceptional taste, ingredient integrity, and products they can feel good about enjoying regularly.
We are changing the way people indulge by creating products that feel more modern, more craveable, and more aligned with what consumers want today. Our goal is to help redefine the category and build the brand that becomes the defining next-generation name in ice cream.
For people who want to be self-starters, own their function with real autonomy, and work with a values-led team on a big mission, Alec’s is a place to do meaningful work and help build something exceptional.
Why This Role Matters
- Alec’s is entering a stage where stronger financial leadership is essential to scaling with discipline
- This role will build the financial backbone of the company across reporting, planning, cash management, controls, and decision support
- The VP Finance will help create clearer visibility into revenue, margin, cash, working capital, inventory, and capital needs
- This person will be a close strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team, helping the business make smarter decisions with fewer surprises
- We are looking for someone who can bring rigor, judgment, and practical business guidance to a fast-growing CPG environment
- This is a high-impact opportunity for a finance leader who wants to build the function, strengthen operating discipline, and grow with the business as it scales
What You’ll Own
- Lead the finance function across reporting, planning, forecasting, cash management, controls, and financial operations
- Own monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, and performance insights that help the business make better decisions
- Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, long-range planning, and scenario modeling
- Own cash forecasting, runway visibility, working capital planning, and banking relationships
- Build scalable finance processes, reporting rhythms, and internal controls that support growth without unnecessary complexity
- Partner cross-functionally with sales, operations, supply chain, marketing, and leadership to provide practical financial guidance
- Support inventory management, margin visibility, and working capital discipline, including efforts to reduce obsolescence risk
- Partner with the CEO and Board Advisor on fundraising support, debt activities, capital planning, board materials, and investor-related financial requests
What Success Looks Like
- Financial reporting is accurate, timely, and useful for decision-making
- Leadership has clear visibility into revenue, margin, cash, working capital, inventory, and capital needs
- Forecasts are grounded in realistic assumptions and help the company anticipate issues before they become problems
- Cash planning is disciplined, current, and connected to operating decisions
- Finance is viewed internally as a strategic partner, not just a back-office function
- Board, investor, lender, and fundraising materials are clear, complete, and delivered on time
- Financial controls and operating discipline improve as the business scales
- The company makes better decisions because finance is providing clarity, not just data
Ideal Experience
- BS in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a director-level finance role
- History of advancement in fast-growing small to mid-sized CPG businesses, ideally in the $50M–$200M revenue range
- Experience in food, beverage, or other consumer packaged goods categories, with exposure to manufacturing and/or co-manufacturing environments
- Strong experience leading financial planning, forecasting, reporting, cash management, and finance operations
- Deep understanding of working capital, inventory-heavy businesses, cash conversion, margin management, and scalable financial controls
- Experience supporting executive leadership with fundraising, debt activities, board reporting, strategic analysis, and cross-functional business decision support
Preferred but not required:
- CPA and/or MBA
- Experience managing outsourced accounting or finance partners
- Experience in founder-led, entrepreneurial, or high-growth environments
Who You Are
- Financially rigorous, commercially minded, and highly dependable
- Thinks like an owner and brings strong business judgment
- Proactive, practical, and able to see around corners
- Comfortable turning complex financial issues into clear recommendations
- Understands that finance should enable the business, not slow it down
- Calm under pressure, low-ego, and credible with executives, functional leaders, external partners, and board-level stakeholders
- Comfortable operating with both precision and urgency in a lean, fast-moving environment
What Won’t Work
This role is not a fit for someone who:
- only wants to report numbers rather than help drive decisions
- needs a large team or mature infrastructure to be effective
- struggles to influence non-financial leaders
- creates complexity instead of clarity
- is reactive rather than proactive
- cannot balance detail orientation with strategic judgment
- wants a narrow finance seat instead of a business-critical leadership role
What We Value / How We Show Up
At Alec’s, our values are not just ideas—they define how we work, how we make decisions, and what we expect from each other.
Protect the Team
We act in ways that strengthen the team, not create drag for it. We communicate clearly, do our part, avoid unnecessary drama, and step in when the business needs us.
Next Play Mentality
We do not get stuck dwelling on mistakes, setbacks, or friction. We learn quickly, adjust fast, and move to the next right action with focus and resilience.
Standard Is the Standard
We hold a high bar for quality, execution, accountability, and consistency. We do not lower standards when things get busy.
Driven, Hungry Problem Solvers
We are resourceful, proactive, and action-oriented. We do not wait around for perfect conditions. We look around corners, solve problems, and keep the business moving.
Grounded Confidence
We want people who are confident without ego—people who bring calm, good judgment, and personal accountability. We value teammates who are secure enough to collaborate, direct enough to be honest, and humble enough to keep learning.
