What are the responsibilities and job description for the Promise Scholars Peer Ally position at Albright College?
Position Summary:
Peer Allies are students dedicated to helping their peers achieve academic excellence and social engagement. They will do academic check ins, assist students to get involved with academic resources, activities on campus and provide tools needed to be successful. Peer Allies will be non-judgmental, positive peer support.
Essential Job Functions:
-Peer Ally will attend all training, Leadership development and check ins each semester (Dates will be provided at the beginning of each semester, All are Mandatory!).
-For each mentee, Peer Ally must:
- Hold one minimum 30-minute in-person meeting a month with each of their mentees (lunch, coffee, walk, it's up to you!)
- Electronically connect with their mentee (via email, text, groupme) once a week. Serve as a role model for incoming students.
- Bring mentees to Promise Scholars events and other campus activities/ social events (Peer Allies must attend every event).
- Assist mentees with signing up for tutoring, success coach, other resources, and using study spaces together.
-Peer Ally will maintain a 2.5 GPA, meet with their Success Coach/Professor if needed and also utilize resources to continue to their academic success.
-Peer Ally will communicate with Director of Promise Scholars if there are any concerns/issues with their mentee or they are struggling themselves.
-Director of Promise Scholars will also reach out to Peer Ally to check on progress with mentees.
-Peer Ally will use Teams group to record all interactions.
Qualifications/Prerequisites:
1. Must be a current Promise Scholar
2. Must be a Junior or Senior
3. Feels comfortable interacting with students one on one
4. Good interpersonal and communication skills
5. Ability to maintain Confidentiality
6. Good overall academic ability
7. Exercise good judgement and professionalism
