GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Building & Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day custodial operations, maintenance, and upkeep of the Albert Lea Family YMCA facilities and grounds. This hands-on position ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for members, staff, and guests through routine custodial duties, preventative maintenance, timely repairs, coordination with contractors, and oversight of custodial staff. The Building & Grounds Supervisor provides a quality experience to all by demonstrating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

KNOW HOW

The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience in facility maintenance, custodial services, building operations, or a related field. This individual should possess working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with basic carpentry, general maintenance, and repair skills.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, dependable, and organized, with the ability to work independently and prioritize both routine responsibilities and unexpected facility needs. This person takes pride in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming spaces and enjoys a combination of hands-on custodial work, facility maintenance, and coordinating projects with contractors and vendors.

CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within 30 days of employment. The successful candidate must obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within 180 days of hire and maintain all required certifications throughout employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Availability to work varied hours; early mornings, evenings and weekends. A core daytime schedule will be determined, but flexibility is required to handle service requests, seasonal projects and routine maintenance that may be required outside of core work hours.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all YMCA members, participants, staff, and guests.
  • Coordinate and perform facility maintenance and custodial operations, including preventative maintenance activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for facility concerns, maintenance requests, and repair needs from staff.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete repairs in a timely manner or coordinate outside services when necessary.
  • Obtain quotes and bids from contractors, coordinate vendor work, and monitor projects to ensure completion and quality standards are met.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, pool, and safety systems.
  • Work with local fire, health, and building officials to maintain compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned custodial staff and volunteers, including scheduling, training, and work direction.
  • Advise leadership regarding facility needs, maintenance priorities, capital improvements, and budget considerations.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of maintenance equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Record and communicate facility repair needs and maintenance activities as appropriate.
  • Ensure YMCA buildings and grounds remain secure during assigned shifts and report incidents or hazardous conditions promptly.
  • Perform routine custodial and maintenance duties including, but not limited to, mopping, trash removal, window cleaning, pool maintenance, painting, power washing, vacuuming, lawn care, snow removal, and general facility upkeep.
  • Operate and maintain maintenance equipment and obtain required certifications as applicable.
  • Participate in staff meetings, YMCA activities, fundraising efforts, and committees as requested.
  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee must follow all safety requirements of the Albert Lea Family YMCA. Employee must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds, remain alert, move throughout the facility and grounds, communicate effectively verbally, and handle interactions with irate or demanding individuals professionally without internalizing or personalizing comments made. Employee must demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills, even when working in a busy environment with multiple competing priorities.

Employee must obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 30 days of employment and maintain active certifications throughout employment. Employee must also obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within 180 days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.

Pay: $15.49 - $18.93 per hour
