Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: This position will apply an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles to provide professional accounting support to AELP and other related companies. As a generalist in AELP’s accounting department, this position will be tasked with regulatory compliance, special projects, and external reporting responsibilities that require a broad understanding of related business and accounting processes. The position will be AELP’s primary backup for payroll, work order management and asset accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger support, and regulatory compliance.
KEY or ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Support Payroll: Act as primary backup for time entry, payment processing, reconciliation, quarterly and annual reports, and withholding remittance.
- Support General Ledger: Prepare, enter, post, and document financial transactions to the general ledger in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Support Accounts Payable: Code invoices, obtain approvals, issue checks and ACH payments, reconcile vendor statements, and balance accounts payable to the general ledger.
- Support Asset Management: Review, approve, and close projects, facilitate customer billing and refunds, and support departmental development of project structures in the ERP system.
- External Reporting: Complete deliver ad hoc and recurring accounting, financial, and business reports, often in concert with or under the direction of the controller or CFO.
- Regulatory Compliance: Complete and deliver regulatory documents in rate cases, recurring filings, and other regulatory actions that require support from accounting or finance.
- Special Projects: Apply accounting skills to complete special projects as required.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Secondary functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide “lunch and learn” training for other departments.
- Evaluate new accounting and tax rules and design and execute implementation programs.
- Provide broad support to the CFO in general rate cases.
- Maintain an updated and accurate long-term financial forecast.
- Provide liaison support to Central Services (AELP’s shared services group).
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Experience and/or education sufficient to demonstrate a proficient understanding of fundamental accounting principles and processes. Examples of this may include, but are not limited to, an associate or a bachelor’s degree in accounting (or an equivalent level of accounting course work), and/or significant experience performing accounting functions for an audited entity. Payroll experience is a plus.
Experience with enterprise-level accounting software is preferred.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under AELP’s insurance policy. Applicants must be willing to release their driving records to AELP prior to offer of employment and submit to pre-employment drug testing.
EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
Duties of this position will require occasional use of a company-owned vehicle, regular use of a desktop computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, printer, as well as other office equipment as required for the job.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must be able to lift 20 pounds without assistance and sit and stand in an office environment for long periods of time (depending on task being completed.)
