Become a Paraprofessional for Alameda County districts! As a paraprofessional, you will gain experience in supporting the needs of specific students, including students with special needs. This is a great way to enter and grow a career in education.
We will help you to connect with district partners to apply for and secure permanent employment as a part of this transitional job preparation program.
At the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE), we've developed two pathways to help individuals become well-qualified paraprofessionals:
Para Institute
This 4-week intensive, in-person training program is designed for individuals committed to full-time preparation for a paraprofessional role. Participants receive $3,000 in paid training, along with comprehensive instructional strategies, test prep, CPR certification, career readiness support, and a $250 incentive stipend to cover onboarding expenses such as fingerprinting and Livescan.
When: Weekdays, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Dates: September 28, 2026 – October 29, 2026
Format: In-person training with hands-on learning experiences
This pathway is perfect for those who are committed to daily attendance and want to gain deeper insights into the paraeducator role.
Path to Para
This is a 12-week evening program designed for individuals currently working in other roles who are looking to transition into education. Participants receive professional development, instructional resources, and application support to help them become qualified paraeducators. Incentives are offered based on attendance and successful placement in a paraeducator role of up to $1,000.
When: Tuesdays, 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM
Dates: September 9, 2026 – December 2, 2026
Format: In-person sessions focused on job readiness and certification support
To qualify, you must:
- Pass a fingerprinting/background check
- Possess a HS Diploma/GED
- Be eligible to work in the United States
The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and possess the skills necessary to foster a nurturing and educational environment. Project Para is intended for individuals who are not currently employed full-time as a paraeducator in a school district.
