What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Associate – Public Service Manager position at Alamance County Government?
Within this role the candidate will promote ACPL’s values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference and reading needs to library patrons of all ages at ACPL and will be expected to perform any and all tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position works under the supervision of the Branch Manager. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, benefited position requiring one evening per week and weekend rotation.

Essential Functions of the Job/Responsibilities
- Acts as the person in charge in absence of the Branch Manager
- Responsible for the overall supervision of the circulation department
- Prepare the weekly deposit, ensuring procedures for printing, self-check and cash register funds are followed properly
- Work with the Branch Manager to ensure smooth operations of schedules and service desk coverage
- Assist in overseeing collection management and collection development
- Perform annual performance reviews
- Perform monthly preparation of timesheets
- Assist in opening and closing the library using established procedures

- Assist patrons and library staff by checking materials in and out
- Assist with directional questions and reader’s advisory
- Issuing library cards
- Taking payments for fines and fees
- Resolving patron disputes and complaints
- Preparing carts for shelving and other clerical tasks as needed

Education & Experience
- Some college is required
- Flexibility in scheduling is required
- Previous library experience is required
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication is required
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, reach the top and bottom of shelves, lift 40 lbs. as well as push and pull loaded book carts is required
- Ability to speak Spanish is preferred
- Previous customer service experience is preferred
Computer Skills
- Prior experience with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, basic internet searching and social media is required
- Ability to learn library technology is preferred
- Willingness to learn new software, technology, and procedures to train staff and be able to mentor proficient and knowledgeable library employees
