Position Title: Middle School Physical Education Teacher
Reports To: Campus Principal
Location: Empower Community School Upper Campus
Position Overview
Empower Schools of Alabama is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Middle School Physical Education (PE) Teacher who is committed to developing the whole child, physically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate will create engaging, high-energy lessons that promote physical fitness, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits while maintaining a structured, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
This educator must believe that all students can learn and thrive, and will actively support students’ social-emotional development alongside their physical growth.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Engagement
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned physical education lessons daily
Teach a variety of physical skills including fitness, sports, movement, and health education
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of all students
Promote student participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility
Integrate social-emotional learning, including goal setting, resilience, and self-discipline
Ensure all activities are safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate
Student Development & Wellness
Foster a positive classroom culture focused on respect, inclusion, and effort
Support students in developing healthy lifestyle habits
Monitor student progress in physical fitness and skill development
Encourage student leadership through team-building and cooperative activities
Classroom & Environment Management
Maintain a structured, well-managed, and safe gym/class environment
Establish clear expectations and routines for behavior and participation
Ensure proper use and care of equipment and facilities
Enforce safety protocols and respond appropriately to injuries or incidents
Assessment & Data Use
Assess student performance using a variety of tools (fitness assessments, skill demonstrations, participation)
Track and communicate student progress
Use data to adjust instruction and support student growth
Relationships & Collaboration
Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Communicate consistently and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and wellness
Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional staff, and leadership
Engage families and community partners to support student wellness initiatives
Participate in all House System activities and events
Participate in school events, family engagement opportunities, and school-wide initiatives
Professional Responsibilities
Participate in ongoing professional development and coaching cycles
Implement feedback to continuously improve instructional practices
Uphold all school policies, procedures, and expectations
Serve as a positive role model aligned to Empower’s values and culture
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required (Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field preferred)
Valid Alabama teaching certification (or ability to obtain)
Experience working with middle school students preferred
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate students
Commitment to equity and belief that all students can succeed

Maintain an active presence in the classroom, including the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom while students are present to monitor, support, and engage learners
Ability to supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and outdoor areas

You will have 12 minutes to complete
Questions will include three types of questions: numerical, verbal, and spatial-reasoning
