Middle School - Science Teacher Job Description
Position Title: Middle School Science Teacher
Reports To: Campus Principal
Location: Empower Community School Upper Campus
Position Overview
Empower Schools of Alabama is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Middle School Science Teacher who is committed to academic excellence and believes that all students can learn and achieve at high levels. The ideal candidate will design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world application while supporting students’ social-emotional development.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned science lessons daily that promote inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including hands-on labs, project-based learning, and technology integration
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including special populations
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to Alabama Course of Study standards
Student Achievement & Data-Driven Instruction
Analyze student data (formative, interim, and summative assessments) to drive instructional decisions
Set ambitious academic goals and monitor student progress regularly
Provide targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records
Classroom Environment & Culture
Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and engaging classroom environment
Implement classroom management systems aligned with school-wide expectations (PBIS/House System)
Build a culture of respect, responsibility, and academic excellence
Support students’ social and emotional development
Relationships & Collaboration
Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Communicate consistently and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress
Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and leadership
Engage in House System activities and school-wide events
Participate in family engagement opportunities and community partnerships
Professional Responsibilities
Participate in ongoing professional development, coaching cycles, and data meetings
Implement feedback from observations (IPG, ELEOT, etc.) to improve instruction
Maintain professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities
Support school initiatives, programs, and extracurricular activities as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or a related field (required)
Valid Alabama teaching certification (or ability to obtain)
Demonstrated content knowledge in middle school science (life, physical, and/or earth science)
Strong classroom management and instructional skills
Commitment to educational equity and high expectations for all students

The assessment takes about 5 minutes to complete

Once you complete the first assessment, you will immediately receive a link to the 2nd assessment. Unlike the prior assessment, this is a timed test. Please consider the following
There are 50 questions
You will have 12 minutes to complete
Questions will include three types of questions: numerical, verbal, and spatial-reasoning
Please complete the assessment on a laptop or desktop

Ensure that you are in a quiet place where you will not be distracted or disturbed
