Position Title: Middle School Math Teacher
Reports To: Campus Principal
Location: Empower Community School Upper Campus
Position Overview
Empower Schools of Alabama is seeking a dynamic, data-driven, and student-centered Middle School Math Teacher who is committed to ensuring all scholars achieve at high levels. The ideal candidate will create and deliver engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned math instruction daily while fostering a classroom environment that supports both academic excellence and social-emotional growth.
This educator must believe deeply that all students can learn, and must be committed to closing achievement gaps through high-quality Tier 1 instruction, targeted interventions, and strong relationship-building.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Planning
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned math lessons daily that promote deep conceptual understanding and problem-solving
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including small group instruction, differentiated learning, and math discourse
Implement rigorous Tier 1 instruction aligned to Alabama Course of Study standards
Design and execute lesson internalization aligned with school instructional expectations
Use formative and summative assessments to drive instruction and adjust in real time
Integrate technology and data tools to enhance instruction and monitor student progress
Data-Driven Instruction
Analyze student data (e.g., ACAP, NWEA MAP, iReady, classroom assessments) to inform instruction
Develop and implement targeted intervention plans for students requiring additional support
Participate in regular Data Talks and collaborate on instructional adjustments
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student performance records
Classroom Environment & Culture
Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and academically focused classroom culture
Implement PBIS and restorative practices to support student behavior and growth
Build strong relationships that support students’ social-emotional development
Maintain high expectations for student achievement and behavior at all times
Relationships & Collaboration
Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Communicate consistently and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress
Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and school leadership
Engage families and community partners to support student success
Actively participate in the school’s House System, including events, competitions, and community-building activities
Participate in school events, family engagement opportunities, and school-wide initiatives
Professional Responsibilities
Participate in ongoing professional development, coaching cycles, and feedback sessions
Implement feedback from instructional leaders to continuously improve teaching practice
Uphold all school policies, procedures, and professional expectations
Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven staff culture focused on excellence and accountability
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
Valid Alabama teaching certification in Mathematics (or eligibility to obtain)
Strong content knowledge in middle school math (Grades 6–8)
Demonstrated ability to use data to drive instruction
Experience working with diverse student populations preferred
