TITLE: Bus Driver / Full Time
QUALIFICATIONS: Possesses High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Possesses valid Class B CDL Alabama driver’s license with P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements and no prior convictions, violations, or DUI’s.
An acceptable criminal background check with the Alabama State Department of Education.
Must pass all state school bus training requirements and be eligible for certification.
Successfully completes and passes D.O.T. medical examination.
Must be insurable under the liability/comprehensive insurance carrier of the Board. Must remain insurable throughout employment tenure.
Must maintain a personal and job related driving record that meets the insurance carrier’s criteria for liability coverage for the Gadsden City Board of Education.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

STATUS: Non-Exempt
JOB GOAL: To provide safe and reliable transportation for students to and from school, with a primary focus on student safety, punctuality, and adherence to traffic regulations and district Policies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obeys all traffic laws.
Maintains a valid state and special school bus driver’s license, without any vehicle violations.
Notifies the Transportation Coordinator within seventy-two (72) hours of any personal vehicle citations.
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
Keeps assigned bus clean.
Keeps to assigned schedule.
Checks bus before operating for mechanical defects.
Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
Discharges students only at authorized stops.
Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
Transports only authorized students.
Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on bus.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass state skill test, state written test, and Department of Transportation Physical and MDE Basic Training Program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
