Position Title: Middle School Career Tech - Computer Teacher
Reports To: Campus Principal
Location: Empower Community School Upper Campus
Position Overview
Empower Schools of Alabama is seeking a dynamic and innovative Career Technical Education (CTE) Computer Science Teacher who is passionate about preparing scholars for success in a technology-driven world. This educator will deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in computer science, digital literacy, and career readiness while fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of technology skills.
The ideal candidate believes that all students can learn and achieve at high levels and is committed to supporting both the academic and social-emotional development of every scholar.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned lessons daily in computer science and technology courses
- Teach topics such as:
- Digital literacy and citizenship
- Coding/programming (e.g., Scratch, Python, JavaScript)
- Computer applications and productivity tools
- Career exploration in technology fields
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs and varying skill levels
- Integrate real-world applications and project-based learning aligned to career pathways
- Utilize data (formative and summative) to drive instructional decisions and student growth
Student Support & Culture
- Build a classroom culture grounded in high expectations, structure, and strong relationships
- Support students’ social-emotional learning and development
- Implement PBIS, restorative practices, and school-wide expectations
- Monitor student progress and provide targeted interventions as needed
Career Readiness & Workforce Development
- Expose students to career pathways in technology and computer science
- Support students in developing:
- Technical skills
- Collaboration and communication skills
- Problem-solving and critical thinking
- Facilitate opportunities such as:
- Student projects, showcases, or competitions
- Partnerships with local organizations or industry professionals
Relationships & Collaboration
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Communicate consistently with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborate with instructional coaches, grade-level teams, and leadership
- Participate in Empower’s House System, including events and student engagement activities
- Engage families and community partners to support student success
- Participate in school events, family engagement opportunities, and school-wide initiatives Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in weekly professional development, data meetings, and coaching cycles
- Implement feedback from observations (IPG, ELEOT, etc.) to improve instruction
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance
- Stay current with trends in technology, computer science education, and workforce readiness Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Education, or related field preferred
- Valid Alabama teaching certification (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience teaching computer science or technology courses preferred
- Strong classroom management and instructional delivery skills

- Ability to supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and outdoor areas

In the first assessment,
- There are no right or wrong answers
- The assessment takes about 5 minutes to complete
- You should take on a laptop or desktop
- Make sure that you are in Google Chrome with a stable internet connection
Once you complete the first assessment, you will immediately receive a link to the 2nd assessment. Unlike the prior assessment, this is a timed test. Please consider the following
- There are 50 questions
- You will have 12 minutes to complete
- Questions will include three types of questions: numerical, verbal, and spatial-reasoning
- Please complete the assessment on a laptop or desktop
- Make sure that you are in Google Chrome with a stable internet connection
- Ensure that you are in a quiet place where you will not be distracted or disturbed
- Be in a competitive state of mind.
