POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking highly motivated and qualified Teachers to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of the instructional program for the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences.
ABOUT US: The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences, slated to open in the fall of 2026, will become the fourth residential high school in the state and the first of its kind focused on healthcare education. Located in Demopolis, where healthcare is central to the community, students will learn the importance of serving as healthcare professionals and making a meaningful impact. With training and certifications, graduates will step into critical healthcare roles across Alabama, addressing an urgent need for skilled professionals. The school’s top priority is to improve the health of all Alabamians by developing strong, capable leaders in healthcare.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Active Alabama license in one of the following: Athletic Trainer, Licensed Practical Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Occupational Therapist, Occupational TherapyAssistant, Paramedic, Pharmacist, Physician, Physician Assistant, Physical
Therapist, Physical Therapy Assistant, Registered Nurse, Registered Technologist-Radiography, Respiratory Therapist, or Veterinarian.
2. Hold a minimum of an associate’s degree in the licensed field.
3. Preferred background and experience in secondary, 9-12 education
4. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes
Additional documentation of one of the following for individuals who are not current Health Science teachers in Alabama is required:
- Associate’s Degree: Three years (5,400 hours) of full-time/part-time work experience within the past seven years as a healthcare practitioner.
- Bachelor’s Degree: Two years (3,600 hours) of full-time work experience within the past five years as a healthcare practitioner.
REPORTS TO: President and Dean of Curriculum and Instruction
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with ASHS’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by ASHS.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Demonstrate support for the school and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Understand and assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences policies.
- Participate in the efficient and effective operation of the school through meetings, conferences, and committee responsibities.
- Accept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of teacher duties and responsibilities.
- Implement and follow the Teaching Standards developed by the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences.
- Abide by the standards established for teachers' professional and personal conduct by the printed and published Code of Ethics.
- Follow the course of study of the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences and the curriculum guides and textbooks approved and adopted by ASHS. The Dean of Curriculum and Instruction must approve other material used for instructional purposes.
- Assist in fostering positive student attitudes through teaching, in all activities of the school program, the core values of innovation, empathy, innovation and service.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes at the designated locations and times.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided and appropriate to the interests and maturity of the students.
- Establish and maintain appropriate discipline in the classroom and assist staff in establishment and maintenance of discipline in the school environment.
- Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives for assigned classes upon request of the President and Dean of Curriculum and Instruction.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, policy, and administrative regulation.
- Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and in accordance with ASHS's established procedures.
- Ability to work successfully with health care professionals of all levels.
- Responsible for identifying dual enrollment opportunities for students.
- Responsible for implementing and recruiting students to an active HOSA chapter.
- Keep informed about current trends and practices in Health Science and disseminate information.
- Responsible for building partnerships with health care professionals and assisting with the Health Science Advisory Committee.
- Assist with the determination of appropriate student credentials.
- Responsible for providing quality education that will prepare students for successful employment in the health care industry.
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to safeguard all equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Make reasonable efforts to be available to school officials, students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Work with other staff members in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Participate in extracurricular activities as mutually agreed upon by faculty and administration.
- Attend and participate regularly in faculty meetings.
- Maintain a professional, cooperative working relationship with colleagues, parents and community.
- Promote good public relations for school and school system with the public.
- Perform other related duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested by the principal.
- Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
