Akkodis is seeking a Product Owner, Product Builder Experience with a client in Rochester, NY. Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Systems, Digital Media, Marketing, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field to be considered. You will be the dedicated point of accountability for the builder experience: owning the backlog, driving improvements, staying current on industry standards and competitor capabilities, and championing modern experiences that help customers create the product they have in mind, and sometimes beyond what they expected was possible. Will work closely with third-party vendor partners, internal stakeholders, and systems integrators to deliver a cohesive and continuously improving builder experience. In addition to the customer-facing builder experience, this role will own the strategy and requirements for the underlying product catalog infrastructure, including PIM (Product Information Management), DAM (Digital Asset Management), and related systems
Rate Range: $40/hr. to $46/hr. The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Product Owner, Product Builder Experience responsibilities include:
- Own and prioritize the product backlog for all builder-related features, enhancements, and defects across third-party and internal builder platforms.
- Partner with systems integrators, third-party vendor partners, and internal stakeholders to define requirements, write user stories with acceptance criteria, and drive sprint planning.
- Evaluate the current builder experience against industry benchmarks, competitor offerings, and emerging best practices in product customization and personalization.
- Identify gaps and opportunities to modernize the builder UX, including workflow improvements, template management, design tools, and output quality.
- Define the strategy, requirements, and process standards for the product catalog infrastructure (PIM, DAM, and related systems) that feed the builder experience, including template definitions, product attributes, pricing rules, and fulfillment specifications.
- Serve as the requirements authority for multiple catalog teams responsible for data entry and validation, setting tooling standards and prioritizing system enhancements that improve catalog accuracy, efficiency, and time-to-market for new product offerings.
- Act as the subject matter expert on builders within the ecommerce organization, providing context and recommendations that inform broader product strategy.
- Collaborate closely with the Kiosk, Mobile, and Web product teams to coordinate cross-cutting builder improvements and maintain consistent customer experience.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies, backlog refinement, and stakeholder reviews.
- Research and recommend adoption of new capabilities, features, or third-party tools that raise the bar for what customers can create, including AI-driven personalization and smart design assistance.
- Monitor builder performance metrics and customer engagement data using analytics tools (GA4, GTM) to make data-driven prioritization decisions.
- Contribute to accessibility compliance efforts for builder interfaces, including awareness of WCAG standards and EAA requirements.
- Facilitate communication and alignment between technical delivery teams and business stakeholders, translating technical constraints into business-friendly language and vice versa.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Systems, Digital Media, Marketing, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field. is required.
- Minimum Five years related experience.
- Direct experience working with product customization tools, design editors, or creative builder platforms (photo products, print-on-demand, or similar is strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated comfort working with third-party vendor platforms and systems integrators, not solely internal development teams.
- Strong backlog management skills with hands-on experience in tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or Aha!.
- Ability to balance tactical sprint-level execution with a longer-term view of where the builder experience needs to go.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience with Scrum or Kanban.
