What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Hardware Engineer position at Akkodis?
Akkodis is seeking a Mechanical Hardware Engineer for a Contract job with a client in West Melbourne, FL. Ideally looking for applicants with a solid background in Electronics enclosure design.
Rate Range: $38/hour to $40/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Role Summary/Purpose:
The Mechanical Engineer will utilize experience or expertise to develop and design Locomotive Control System-based solutions.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Develop creative solutions and define hardware requirements for new and existing Locomotive Control System products utilizing DFX methodology
• Technically execute based on business priorities supporting the design, development, and Life Cycle Maintenance of portfolio of automated remote control of freight locomotives Control Systems and their associated subsystems
• Provide mechanical design, manufacturability, producibility, and reliability support and participate in mechanical hardware requisition activities
• Support field issues and failure investigations, conduct root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and document lessons learned
• Capturing of Bill of Materials and Drawings into our Product Lifecycle Management tools
• Facilitate the cradle-to-grave deployment of our hardware platforms, including introduction into the manufacturing environment, documentation/test development, and obsolescence support/resolution
• Provide mechanical engineering technical support to Program Managers and Project Engineers as required
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role
• Minimum of 3 years of experience utilizing 3D CAE/CAD based modeling tools, preferably SolidWorks
• Minimum of 2 years direct experience designing Electronic Assemblies and Enclosures.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience generating mechanical specifications and requirements utilizing requirement management tools
• Experience in sheet metal design and injection molded plastics design
Desired Characteristics:
• Experience with Agile PLM, or other Configuration Management tools
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment
• Experience developing and executing environmental qualification tests (thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC, etc.)
• Basic electrical knowledge and use of tools, such as DMM
• Railroad industry experience a plus
• Experience with Locomotive interfaces and HW platforms
