Akkodis is seeking a – “Lab Administrator” for a Contract position with a client located in San Jose, CA.
Pay Range: $50 - $55/hr. (The rate/salary may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.).
What You’ll Do
We are seeking a Lab Administrator to support the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and readiness of engineering lab environments across multiple locations. This role is responsible for ensuring lab infrastructure is operational, testbeds are properly configured, and engineering teams have the resources they need to support development and testing activities.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with networking hardware, rack and stack activities, troubleshooting lab infrastructure, and supporting large-scale engineering environments. You will work closely with Hardware Engineering, Lab Support, System Integration Testing (SIT), and Operations teams to minimize downtime and maintain a highly available lab environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of engineering lab infrastructure.
- Coordinate with Lab Support teams on rack and stack activities.
- Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, servers, optics, power shelves, and other networking hardware.
- Build, configure, and validate new testbeds based on engineering requirements.
- Perform chassis assembly, line card installations, hardware upgrades, and replacements.
- Conduct hardware verification, diagnostics, and system health checks.
- Verify proper power, cooling, cabling, and network connectivity before testbeds are released for use.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure and hardware issues, including:
- Fiber and copper cabling
- Console connectivity
- PXE boot failures
- Device bring-up
- Boot failures
- Image loading
- Hardware installation issues
- Power-related issues
- Testbed connectivity
- Network topology setup
- Hardware movement and replacement
- Maintain accurate hardware inventory and asset tracking documentation.
- Support engineering teams by ensuring lab resources remain available and operational.
- Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting activities.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience supporting engineering labs, networking environments, or data centers.
- Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals.
- Experience booting and loading images on routers.
- Experience bringing up and supporting large network topologies.
- Ability to troubleshoot networking issues, including connectivity and routing/protocol-related problems.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Routers and switches
- Traffic generators
- Linux systems
- Rack and stack operations
- Fiber and copper cabling
- PXE boot and provisioning
- Experience performing hardware installation, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with inventory management and asset tracking systems.
