What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Mechanical Engineer position at Akkar?
We’re partnering with a cutting-edge robotics innovator developing advanced AI-powered humanoid systems designed to work alongside people in real-world environments. As they scale toward commercialization, they’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Actuation to play a key role in designing the actuators and mechanisms that power their platform.
Why Join?
- Design the core actuation systems powering advanced humanoid robots.
- Own projects from concept through prototype, testing, and pilot build.
- Work in a fast-moving, highly collaborative engineering environment.
- Influence product performance, reliability, and scalability at platform level.
- Competitive compensation, equity, and strong benefits.
The Role
You’ll lead the detailed design and analysis of rotary and linear actuators, drivetrains, and electromechanical packaging systems. Working within a small, cross-disciplinary team, you’ll drive design decisions through engineering analysis, prototyping, testing, and iteration, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and optimized for manufacturing.
What You’ll Do
- Lead design and development of electric motors, geartrains, joints, and transmission systems.
- Perform engineering analysis (FEA, kinematics, dynamics) to validate and optimize designs.
- Compare concepts through iterative prototyping, testing, and refinement.
- Produce GD&T-driven drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Support pilot builds and DVP&R validation activities.
- Harden designs for scalability, reliability, and DFMA.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, controls, and systems engineers.
What We’re Looking For
- 6 years of experience developing actuation systems, robotics, or complex electromechanical products.
- Strong fundamentals in kinematics, statics, dynamics, and mechanism design.
- High proficiency in CAD (NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar).
