What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Application Engineer position at Akkar?
Want to work on the technology powering the future of self-driving vehicles?
We’re partnering with a global leader in advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving technology, supporting some of the world’s leading automotive OEMs. Their systems are already deployed at scale and are helping drive the evolution from ADAS to fully autonomous mobility.
As they continue to expand across North America, they’re looking for a Field Application Engineer to work directly with OEM customers, supporting the integration, debugging, and deployment of next-generation automotive platforms.
Why Join?
- Work on real-world autonomous driving systems deployed in production vehicles.
- Be on the front line with OEMs, solving complex technical challenges in vehicles and test environments.
- Gain hands-on exposure to cutting-edge ECUs, embedded systems, and ADAS platforms.
- Travel across the US, working closely with leading automotive manufacturers.
- Competitive compensation, strong benefits, and international exposure (including onboarding in Europe).
The Role
You’ll act as the key technical interface between engineering teams and automotive customers, supporting the deployment of advanced embedded systems into vehicles and test environments.
This is a highly hands-on role where you’ll debug issues on test benches (HiL) and vehicles, support software/firmware flashing, and work directly with customer engineering teams to resolve complex system-level challenges.
What You’ll Do
- Debug and resolve issues across embedded systems on test benches and in vehicles.
- Support software and firmware flashing on next-generation ECUs.
- Work on-site with OEM customers to troubleshoot and deliver technical solutions.
- Analyze system-level issues across hardware, software, and communication layers.
- Support integration, validation, and deployment of ADAS systems.
- Travel extensively (~80%) across customer sites and manufacturing locations.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5 years of experience as a Field Application Engineer, Resident Engineer, or Systems/Validation Engineer in automotive or embedded systems.
- Strong understanding of embedded systems and debugging interfaces (JTAG, UART, Ethernet).
- Experience with communication protocols (CAN, CAN-FD, Ethernet, SOME/IP).
- Familiarity with flashing, OTA updates, and tools such as TFTP, SFTP, SCP, UDS.
- Hands-on experience with test benches (HiL) and/or vehicle-level testing.
