Job Summary
The Human Resource Coordinator provides administrative and operational support for the Human Resources department across multiple Ajax Paving locations. This position serves as a first point of contact for employees regarding HR processes and assists with recruiting, onboarding, HRIS administration, benefits administration, employee records, compliance, payroll support, and day-to-day HR operations. The HR Coordinator works closely with HR Generalists and business leaders to ensure an exceptional employee experience while maintaining compliance with company policies and employment regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Employee Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee HR-related questions and requests.
- Provide outstanding customer service to employees, applicants, and managers.
- Assist employees with HRIS, employee self-service, benefits enrollment, and payroll questions.
- Respond to employment verification and general employment inquiries.
Recruiting & Hiring
- Coordinate interview scheduling with hiring managers and candidates.
- Post positions on job boards and company career sites.
- Track candidate activity within the Applicant Tracking System.
- Coordinate background checks, drug screenings, and pre-employment requirements.
- Prepare offer letters and onboarding documentation.
- Communicate with candidates throughout the hiring process.
Onboarding & Offboarding
- Coordinate new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
- Prepare new hire packets and ensure all employment documentation is complete.
- Process employee hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations in UKG.
- Coordinate exit interviews and offboarding activities.
- Ensure all required equipment, badges, and system access are requested and recovered.
HRIS & Employee Records
- Maintain accurate employee records within UKG.
- Audit HR data for accuracy and completeness.
- Process employee status changes and maintain personnel files.
- Generate routine HR reports and workforce metrics.
- Assist with HR data reconciliation and compliance audits.
Benefits Administration
- Assist employees with benefit enrollment and life event changes.
- Support annual Open Enrollment activities.
- Coordinate benefit paperwork with insurance vendors.
- Answer basic benefits questions and escalate complex issues when appropriate.
Payroll Support
- Assist with payroll documentation and employee record updates.
- Review timekeeping issues and partner with Payroll to resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure payroll-related HR transactions are completed accurately and timely.
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain I-9 documentation and employment files.
- Support compliance with federal, state, and company employment requirements.
- Assist with audits, reporting, and document retention.
- Maintain HR forms, templates, and employee communications.
- Support HR initiatives, engagement events, career fairs, and community outreach.
- Assist with special HR projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Two (2) or more years of Human Resources, Recruiting, Payroll, Benefits Administration, or Administrative experience required.
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, transportation, or other blue-collar environments preferred.
- Experience with UKG or a similar Human Resource Information System preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel periodically between Ajax Paving locations.
- Ability to participate in recruiting events, orientations, and job fairs as needed.
