Purchasing Agents work and negotiate with suppliers to purchase goods and services for the company they represent. This role may have the following duties and responsibilities:
Major Responsibilities:
This job is indoors. Activities will include both sitting and standing. These activities will occur in the parts/purchasing area. Although the position is indoors there will be varying temperatures between different areas.
Major Responsibilities:
- Evaluating suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria
- Interviewing vendors to learn about products, service,s and pricing
- Negotiating contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best deals on behalf of the company
- Verifying purchases by comparing them to a primary list and recommending alternatives for expensive or irrelevant products
- Interacting with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors
- Authorizing payments and maintaining receipts, records, and inventories
- Tracking and maintaining inventory of supplies
- High school diploma or GED required, college degree a plus
- 3 years previous experience in purchasing preferred
- Strong data entry skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to communicate orally with others, (subordinates, management,)
- Standing on hard surface for extended periods of time
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for safe conduct on the manufacturing floor and to meet job responsibilities
- Able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Good manual dexterity to meet job responsibilities
- Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of problems.
