Airspeed LLC is seeking an Engineering Account Manager to support strategic customer accounts totaling approximately $15 million to $25 million in annual business. This position serves as the primary technical and commercial bridge between the customer and Airspeed’s engineering, quality, production, tooling, supply chain, finance, and global manufacturing teams. The role does not require prior customer-facing account management experience, but it does require strong technical ability, clear communication, disciplined follow-through, and the confidence to coordinate complex work across multiple functions and locations.
The Engineering Account Manager will support customer accounts through the full lifecycle of the relationship, including design review, manufacturing feasibility, tooling coordination, validation, launch, production support, engineering changes, quality issue coordination, pricing support, margin protection, and ongoing account growth.
This role reports to the VP of Engineering and is based in Mebane, North Carolina, with domestic and international travel required up to approximately 15%.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned strategic customer accounts.
- Support longterm customer retention, account growth, and margin protection.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, technical requirements, product applications, and manufacturing expectations.
- Coordinate Design for Manufacturing feedback between customers and Airspeed’s domestic and international manufacturing operations.
- Help identify manufacturing, tooling, quality, cost, timing, and launch risks early.
- Coordinate customer requirements with engineering, quality, production, tooling, supply chain, finance, and executive leadership.
- Support tooling, sampling, launch, validation, qualification, and customer approval activities.
- Coordinate customer communication during quality, production, engineering change, delivery, or commercial issues.
- Partner with Quality on customer concerns, corrective action communication, containment updates, and followup.
- Support pricing discussions involving tooling, part production, engineering charges, material changes, expedited work, change orders, and customerrequested modifications.
- Track open issues, commitments, launch milestones, risks, action items, and customer communication.
- Work with U.S. and international manufacturing operations, including China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, and other locations as business needs require.
- Participate in calls or meetings outside normal business hours when needed to support global coordination across time zones.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing program management, technical project management, product launch, manufacturing support, or a closely related role.
- Experience working with engineered products, customer specifications, technical drawings, manufacturing requirements, or crossfunctional project coordination.
- Strong understanding of complex engineered parts and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, CADrelated information, tolerances, and technical documentation.
- Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into clear internal action items.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical and manufacturing issues clearly.
- Strong organizational skills and disciplined followthrough.
- Ability to coordinate work across engineering, quality, production, tooling, supply chain, finance, and leadership teams.
- Ability to influence others and drive accountability without direct supervisory authority.
- Commercial awareness, including the ability to understand cost impacts, pricing considerations, account risk, and margin protection.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to review or work with information in CREO or similar engineering software preferred.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to approximately 15%.
- Ability to participate in occasional early morning or evening calls due to international time zones.
- Ability to pass a background screen.
Work environment and physical requirements:
- This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Work may include time at a desk, in conference rooms, in production areas, at customer sites, and at domestic or international manufacturing locations.
- Ability to walk through production areas, tooling areas, warehouses, and customer or supplier facilities.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and visually inspect parts, tooling, equipment, or production conditions as needed.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to wear required PPE in manufacturing environments, including safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, or other required protective equipment.
