About the Role:

Air Force Material Command is looking for a full-time Infrastructure Flight Chief, WS-4701-13, to work at 96 Test Wing, 96 Civil Engineer Group, 796 Civil Engineer Squadron, Infrastructure Systems, (CEOI) at Eglin Air Force Base.

To exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work of the 796 Civil Engineering Squadron Infrastructure Flight. Oversees the activities on the Infrastructure Flight, which provides maintenance, repair and alteration of real property including but not limited to, the industrial complex, administrative facilities, hospitals, and maintenance repair/operations of HVAC systems, water/wastewater distribution systems, liquid fuels and entomology.

Typical 2026 salary range: $79,726 - $93,184 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: TDY for advanced management/leadership training may be required. Responds to other sites/locations throughout Eglin range.

Desired Skills:

A senior-level trades leader with a minimum of 5-years practical experience who excels in directing large-scale, multi-disciplinary facility and infrastructure operations.

This individual possesses broad technical knowledge across multiple maintenance trades and demonstrates the strategic leadership necessary to oversee subordinate supervisors, manage complex base sustainment projects, and ensure the operational readiness of critical DoW installations.

They are adept at resolving complex personnel issues, forecasting workforce requirements, and mentoring mid-level supervisors to build a highly effective and resilient maintenance organization.

Major Duties:

  • Plans on a quarterly or longer basis the overall use of personnel and other resources in two or more separate organizational segments or groups controlled through one or more levels of supervision.
  • Determines resources requirements, materials, and the number of employees and the types of skills necessary to accomplish long range work schedules.
  • Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors and sets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed.
  • Maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations.
  • Advises employees in advance of performance expectations and explains new work techniques, as required.
  • Restructures positions when necessary to achieve the most effective and economical utilization of personnel.
  • Addresses subordinates concerns, whether perceived or real, and follows up with appropriate action to correct or eliminate tension in the workplace.
  • Reports all known security violations to the proper authority immediately when discovered.
  • Ensures safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
  • A valid driver's license will be required for the position.
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary civil engineering concepts, principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) including full range of repair, operation and maintenance of: water/wastewater, liquid fuels and distribution systems, entomology, heating and air-condition systems, digital controls and other infrastructure systems for use in office buildings, hospitals and military installation structures.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. In addition, knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of supervised personnel, personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications regarding heating, air conditioning, central (HVAC) plants, roofing, structural systems, interior electrical systems and interior plumbing systems (potable/non potable), complex building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, surveys, and other guides and codes.
