JOB DESCRIPTION:
Shipping/Crating
POSITION OVERVIEW
Prepares all products for shipment and minimizes the chance of transit damage by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to read and interpret a tape measure within 1/16th of an inch. Use a saw or shear to cut wood to size. Retrieve and replenish necessary materials and parts to ensure organized production. Ability to operate a forklift and/or crane. Ability to operate automatic nail and staple guns. Proficient in wrapping products by hand or with automatic wrapping machine. Operate shipping computer(s) and related software. Ability to build pallets to secure products during shipment. Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school education preferred. At least one year of shipping experience is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends as required by union contract. Ability to work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
