The Cook is the liaison between patients and the Agrace kitchen. This position works to promote all patient meal coordination, is responsible for initial patient orientation, delivery and return of patient meals, and patient diet order changes. Additionally, this position is responsible for kitchen operations, environmental safety, events, production, and special projects.

How You’ll Make a Difference
The Cook is the liaison between patients and the Agrace kitchen. This position works to promote all patient meal coordination, is responsible for initial patient orientation, delivery and return of patient meals, and patient diet order changes. Additionally, this position is responsible for kitchen operations, environmental safety, events, production, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain Patient Meal Information
- Collaborate directly with patients and families and tailor meal services to meet specific needs.
- Keep all patient meal information up to date and disseminate to appropriate stakeholders.
- Process daily patient menus.
- Collaborate with inpatient unit staff to tailor meal services to meet patient needs.
- Coordinate Guest Tray program in collaboration with Inpatient social workers and leadership.
- Consult with Homecare teams regarding patient dietary needs, as appropriate.
- Educate kitchen staff on new allergens and diets.
- Provide daily menus to team station and kitchen staff.
- Educate inpatient unit staff on kitchen programs, changes, and food safety concerns.
- Document patient and guest meals
- Prepare and deliver appetizing patient meals appropriate to patient diet type and/or customer request.
- Ensure consistency and quality of all kitchen products and meals by using established workflows/systems, tasting food, presenting the food properly, and following Agrace recipes.
- Complete tasks within the required timelines and collaborates shift-to-shift.
- Request orders of kitchen food and supplies in accordance with the established ordering schedule.
- Stock and rotate food and supplies in the kitchen, nutrition centers, vending areas, and storage areas.
- Assist throughout the kitchen and café as required to meet production requirements.
- Work with internal and external customers for event planning and execution considering cost, aesthetics, timing, and special menu items.
- Collaborate with other Agrace teams for special projects.
- Follow all internal and external policies and procedures regarding safely preparing, packaging, storing, and serving food.
- Ensure the work area is kept clean, safe, and stocked appropriately for use at all times.
- Train staff and volunteers regarding the expectations and procedures for stocking inpatient unit nutrition centers.
- Ensure nutrition centers are well maintained and organized.
- Stock and rotate food and supplies in the nutrition centers and vending areas.
- Train, assign, and direct the work of volunteers.
- Participate in internal work groups, meetings and committees relative to position responsibilities.
- Collaborate with IT and communicate updates to kitchen team.
- Complete annual volunteer evaluations for kitchen volunteers.
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Associate degree in Food Service, Dietetics, or related field, preferred
- Three or more years’ experience in food services, preferably in a healthcare setting
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle
- Knowledge of and experience with researching and interpreting federal and state safety standards
- Experience managing volunteers
- Experience using industry specific software
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others
- Ability to maintain confidentiality about patients, families, caregivers, staff, donors, and organizational intellectual property
- Ability to use proper body mechanics and standard precautions
- Ability to be flexible in time and task to meet organizational needs
